Employer applying for Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

So, what I have always dreaded and hoped would not happen at work, has happened.

I learnt from the LGBTQAP+++ alphabet soup network that they will apply for the index. Really not sure how to approach this without risking my job. Have not idea whether those advocating this are acting in good or bad faith, or just being naive , probably both. Hence not sure if they would be reasonable and open to discussions if approached directly.

Maybe I should just take the easy , and do nothing. Or do I try and do gre right thing?

And why, or how has Stonewall not fallen yet? A view weeks

A few weeks ago they were all over the news for misrepresenting the Equality Law and organisations dropping out of their scheme. Then they changed their logo. Now it’s all gone quiet?!

Apologies for typos in the OP.

Organisations have continued to leave Stonewall. Sex matters has been tracking them, and also has a letter that may be useful if you want to raise it.

I’d say please do, people here will support and encourage you.

As to why or how Stonewall has not yet fallen, I wish I knew.

AffronttoBS · 25/09/2021 20:43

Thank you for those resources. Very useful.

I’m thinking of emailing the Top DIE person direct, attaching those links, and writing a short email saying that I am Flagging this as there are legal and reputational risks for the company, that they should review their decision to go ahead with the scheme, and leave it at that. Maybe copy to higher ups.

It will be an impersonal, professional email. I hope it doesn’t matter that the DIE is an emotional woke ilk, unlikely to agree. I will not be drawn into any sort of justification or debate.

My employer is on the list and I genuinely fear it would risk my job to raise this. I would definitely risk a voluntary position I hold internally. Really wish they'd pull out though

I would possibly consider not using those links as Sex Matters may have been flagged to them as a transphobic organisation. Maybe just attach some of the recent news articles about issues and high profile orgs leaving.
AffronttoBS · 25/09/2021 21:10

Everything is called transphobic though. That’s part of the dirty games that the woke plays, and it is a one way street.

Yes, if you can find the time, I would try to make the correspondence your own words rather than posting links from women’s rights websites (albeit use some of the content from the links).

You may find more material here: fairplayforwomen.com/open-letter-to-trustees-and-chief-executives-youre-being-taken-for-a-ride/

If you want to link a news article, here’s a few:

My employer is on the list but I know from being one of the few people who bothered reading the D&I meeting minutes on our intranet that the firm is not renewing its application this year and has decided to use the saved money on other initiatives. The company has offices in countries where LGBT people have a very difficult time and I hope the funds get spent there, on training/awareness raising or support for colleagues.

AffronttoBS · 26/09/2021 10:16

I don’t think I will use my own words, because I don’t have the time or energy or the skills to get drawn into a divisive discussion or justification.

I will continue to look for articles. Think I found a few in the Times already.

@Crouton19 from scanning through info on the website, I think part of the stonewall scheme, if the company is in global, is that they make lgbt + policies localised (whatever that means). So I shan’t mention that as a viable alternative.

But yes, I agree, companies should be focusing on countries where there is genuine LBG oppression rather then trying to impose gender ideology in the UK (pronouns, mixed sex toilets, rainbow 🌈 lanyards, ‘education’ etc.).

I fully expect that those discussions are had within the LGBT network and then get shut down. None of the internal pride/bi-visibility news ever features staff in our Middle East offices, for example.
