Why is it so difficult to talk about periods? I’m not a bleeding babe.
It has gone so far down the road that I understand why period product companies want to create marketing that is ‘inclusive’, but it just feels like they are laughing at women now.
What next? Gendered toilet roll for shitting sistas?

In their rush to be inclusive it’s ironic that the company has used such a stereotypically feminine word like “babe”. Yes, I’m sure all the trans men and non binaries are just thrilled to be called “babes”. It’s almost exquisitely perfect in how sexist it is- we are reduced to reproductive bodily functions (bleeding), while at the same time are expected to be feminine and beautiful (babes). And then just combine that with the zoomed in shot of the woman’s crotch - a detached, depersonalised body part. Bravo. I couldn’t have made a more offensive ad if I tried !

I’m not a babe, I’m 49.
And have just spent more on period products than in the whole previous 10 years thanks to peri menopause sending my periods haywire.
They don’t want my money then.

Agree with all of this entirely.

How could they miss the mark so completely?

Also, some girls start having periods at 10. Transmen and non-binary people aside, does this company genuinely think it's appropriate to refer to very young girls as 'bleeding babes'?

Anyway, as someone who does not identify as a bleeding babe, I will be sure not to buy anything from this company.

Urgh...not another one.

Good luck flogging to your new market...

mum2jakie · 12/09/2021 09:24

God that really is a vile marketing campaign!

alkanet · 12/09/2021 09:27

Apart from the language being offensive it's a rather strange picture. Why are their pants reaching their knees? Looks like a baby in a nappy.

Lowhum · 12/09/2021 09:47

I’m just fed up of all this marketing that looks like it has come from a challenge on The Apprentice.

I can just imagine a group of enthusiastic copywriters discussing how they can change the rhetoric and stigma around periods with mood boards and presentations etc. and then ending up with a load of regressive alliteration and word salad.

Cycle care? That’s what the bike café down the road is for. Every single aspect of that advert misses its mark and is offensive AF.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/09/2021 09:52

Yy low I think I'd rather go back to the paper bag in the chemist days than have " being open " translate into eingey loud chat show style adverts , parltronising akd infantalising language and a mass of pictures of women half naked all whilst too embarrassed to mention the word woman but seemingly knowing who to photograph in their knickers.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/09/2021 09:54

Cringey

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/09/2021 16:06

Soo fucking cringey

FlyingOink · 12/09/2021 16:46

Doesn't ohne mean without in German?

Without what, exactly? A cock?

JellySlice · 12/09/2021 19:19

That image! So un-womanlike. Not surprising that I read the text as "bleeding babies". What woman referred to herself as a babe, or even as bleeding xyz? What an utterly offensive, nonsensical advert.

Lowhum · 12/09/2021 20:47

I’m starting to wonder whether some marketing companies are deliberately creating shit adverts just so people will talk about them online and get them in the press. That’s got to be the only reason I can think of for them posting such utter shyte.

Dear heavens, the chafing (looking at the underwear in the photo and how far it extends down the thighs to not that far above the knees). I'd be cut to ribbons.

I agree with the comments PPs have made about the language, it couldn't be more designed to repel me. I don't think my horror is entirely accounted for by generational differences.
