There's one of those things that people use to start to change politicians' minds been put up on the relevant UK gov website.

Digging with Non-Crime Hate Incidents on the relevant site will get you there should you want to ... indicate your support for the following:

"Require police disclose & allow reported Non-Crime Hate Incidents be challenged

Impose a statutory duty on each police force to give notice to individuals when Non-Crime Hate Incidents are recorded against them, and give them an opportunity to challenge the allegations within 28 days, with a right of appeal to the court, so that these reports can be deleted if unfounded."

Wouldn't it be better not to record them at all?

ChristinaXYZ · 07/09/2021 21:22

I thought that! But whilst they are being recorded I guess this is smaller mountain to climb. I can see why she went for the version she did.

I guess it always gives the government the chance to think recording of Non-Crime Hate Incidents needs getting rid of too!

Police recording non crime incidents is fucked up when they are performing as they are on sex offences.

The police have masses of free time on their hands because there is so little actual fucking crime to investigate. This stuff quite literally keeps them off the streets.

@NiceGerbil

Police recording non crime incidents is fucked up when they are performing as they are on sex offences.
Bit of an odd argument - it is often the CPS that discontinue sexual assaults, not the police. The police have to refer sexual assaults to the CPS who decide whether to prosecute or not. And many victims don't want to engage though the process and just want it reported. I would read the Secret Barrister who explains clearly why that is.

It is also civilian control room staff who are recording the crimes or "non-crime hate incidents", not officers on the ground.

I don't agree with it at all either but let's not spread misinformation around out of frustration.

ChristinaXYZ · 08/09/2021 20:01

Some good points @Wiltshire90 but bearing in mind the volume of these incidents being recorded and the staff time, and other costs involved, whether police officers or admin staff, it is a waste of resources when they are letting other issues go undealt with. Like the piece of work who robbed Sarah Everard of her life still being a serving officer not suspended under investigation as he should have been (nothing to do with the CPS at that point) just a resources problem, or worse a commitment problem. Either of which makes me incandescent with regard to the waste of time that non-crime hate stuff is!

Because recording anything takes time.

Time that could be used elsewhere.

The police are following up reports of things that are not against the law.

The police are shit at bothering with loads of sex offences that's common knowledge surely.

@NiceGerbil

Police recording non crime incidents is fucked up when they are performing as they are on sex offences.
It is also fucked up because they may appear on DBS/PVG checks, and the person recorded will not know this exists against their name.
