en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hic_Mulier
and
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haec-Vir

Does anyone know anything about these?

The history sounds quite fascinating!

Toying with 'hic' as a pronoun :) (but I might have got it all terribly wrong).

That was fascinating, thank you for posting it.

Hic is an article, not a pronoun - so if you read any Jennings or similar as a child, when they were saying "hic haec hoc" while pretending to be aircraft gunners, that was the Masc Fem Neuter words for "the / this" in Latin, like "der die das" in German.

If you want dead language pronouns that do take masculine / feminine / neuter forms, can I suggest Old English he / heo / hit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Old_English_personal_pronouns_(table)

Thank you! I was confused. I thought I'd found a pronoun for 'stroppy woman who does not accept the limitations imposed on her sex'. But obviously not.

This is on my 'to watch' list :)

Surely 'hic' is a demonstrative adjective or a demonstrative pronoun, KarmaViolet, not an article?
e.g.
Hic est canis. This is a dog. (hic as demonstrative pronoun)

Hic canis meus est. This dog is mine. (hic as demonstrative adjective).

Yes, lazylinguist :)

Thanks for the links though, interesting history nugget.

I liked this line in Wikipedia.

During the last few years of King James's reign, women were accused of dressing and behaving like men. This occurrence was relatively small-scale and brief.

Thank goodness that didn't get out of hand... Shock

It is an interesting history nugget, isn't it?

I can't even remember how I found it now - I think I was googling something like 'hatred for women who refuse to be feminine' or something and that took me to a short article and I traced it from there.

But I'd never heard of the pamphlets or the historical events before!
