SSAUK Advice note on socially transitioning kids (for parents and concerned teachers)

At SSA we are inundated with emails from parents and teachers concerned about schools socially transitioning children without parents' knowledge or consent.

In response we have written an advice note:
here

This also follows the news this week about parents who legally challenged their child's school: here

And links in with concerns about Scottish Guidance. Here is our response

Our spokeswoman Tanya Carter was on GB news this morning also talking about some of our concerns. We will share footage later.

This Advice Note is absolutely superb. Schools who socially transition your child (change their name, refer to them as the opposite sex) are acting completely unlawfully, as the SSAUK Advice Note amply shows by quoting the actual law. The rights of the parents are paramount and trans activists within local education authorities and schools have absolutely no rights or legal ability to usurp the role of parents. The law and statutory guidance are quite clear. Parents, get clued up and read this!

The law is crystal clear, and head teachers have no excuse for not knowing it.

It could be that we are at the point where the metaphorical shit hits the proverbial fan.

Thank you, thank you, thank you SSAUK. Flowers

This is an outstanding and detailed summary of the legal, safeguarding and pastoral care issues in schools in relation to this vulnerable group of children that trans lobby groups are currently trashing.

This needs the widest possible circulation - hopefully the press will pick it up as so many parents are desperate for this information .

It’s fantastic and while I know it’s for England/Wales and a Scottish one I will be produced, but many of the principles apply to Scotland and so it is very useful for Scottish parents - I intend to send it to my daughter’s school. Thanks so much, SSA.

Fantastic work, well done!

Jaysmith71 · 23/08/2021 18:03

The UK Children Act 1989 is modified by the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, which looks pretty much like a repetition of the same principles.

Thanks all @Jaysmith71 that's helpful. We need to take a look but was anxious to get this out. A lot of it will be relevant to all.

Cursory glance. The only thing I really learned at Uni was how to look things up.

Get a proper Scottish lawyer to go over it.

Thank you SSAUK.

On the off chance anyone sees this thread and is a parent who is thinking this sort of thing doesn't apply to their child/school, please do have a nose around your DC's school website - check the Equality Policy is correctly listing sex, and not gender as a protected characteristic. Also read the RSE policy and ask for example resources on the sex/gender topic.

Here are a couple of good pages to look at for anyone new to this:

Really important for all parents to be aware of what schools re teaching their children.

FemaleAndLearning · 24/08/2021 10:46

This is great work once again from Safe Schools Alliance. I've got good communication with my school over gender issues so I will send this advice note to them. I think some schools need this information pointed out to them.

Just giving this a bump.
