Joined the Green Party, now what?

I've just joined the Green Party after voting for them for decades (holding my nose more recently).

I'm hoping to vote for the GC leadership candidate but having never joined a political party before I'm not sure how it happens!

Will something come in the post or online?

Welcome! There's a vote currently open for roles etc, I'll try to find the thread.

Yes there was an email about hustings that will be going on for leadership.

It might be worth emailing hq and asking for a basic run down of what where when.

Green Party Elections - Candidates who know what sex is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4302663-Green-Party-Elections-Candidates-who-know-what-sex-is

You don't vote for everyone on the list, just as described here if you wish to vote for more feminist leaning people.

Thanks @WarriorN. That is really useful.

I think that there is a green feminists Zoom meeting tonight.

When does the leadership election itsel start?

JulesJules · 22/08/2021 15:46

Me too @whiteroseredrose - DH and I both joined a couple of days ago, and I've just had an email about the leader candidates and voting information.

CircularReasoning · 22/08/2021 15:48

Just found the answer. 2nd - 23rd September.
You need to be in membership by 27th August to be able to vote

Green Party Leadership Candidates.
Shahrar Ali is the one who will be most vocal about women's rights.
Tina and Martin are aware of the divisions and will seek to sideline the trans extremism. They are not being so open about their own personal views. They get my number one preference, by the way.
Ashley Gunstock has been a disappointment in the hustings, which is a shame as he is a good, solid Green.
Adrian And Carla are very trans friendly.
Amelia and Tamsin have consumed more Kool Aid than is good for them.
I hope that helps.

Although Ali is supportive of women, he has rejected the IHRA definition of anti-semitism, which I find problematic.

whiteroseredrose · 30/08/2021 12:22

Thank you Lovemybuspass!

GPEW supports the Palestinians and wants to be able to criticise Israel without being accused of being anti-semitic. Not all our Jewish members are in agreement, but many do not want us to adopt the IHRA definition.

GreenandCommon · 30/08/2021 16:37

I noticed in the Autumn Conference agenda there's a motion to adopt a different definition of anti-semitism, think it was the Jerusalem definition. I haven't done any research on the difference in definitions yet.

I am a lot more sceptical of all these accusations now as so often when you read up the background it amounts to failing the invisible purity test.

I'm not looking for a fight IsThePopeCatholic but "problematic" is one of my hmm words now. If "find problematic" was replaced with "don't agree with" in your post then the reader feels entitled to make their own mind up. Once something gets the problematic label then I think there's a natural reaction of "oh I don't want to be associated with something problematic" and readers are less likely to use their own judgement.

Pax though, I'm not especially knowledgeable on this debate and maybe you have done your research on the definitions.

I wish there weren't quite so many green threads at the moment. I thought about trying to wrench this aspect of the discussion over to Green Party 5 but to be true to my principles we'd have to have a thread citizen's assembly first.
