Scottish women - actions to take

Hello, all.

People have been asking what can be done to protect women and women's rights, specifically in Scotland. If you're new to it, welcome, there is LOTS to be done. Every tiny little action helps and makes a difference.

I thought a resource thread might be of use. There's lots coming up just now - not least the SNP about to make a coalition with the Scottish Greens, and parliament reconvening next week.

Website above is a quick and easy way to find out who your representatives are and how to contact them.

forwomen.scot/

Invaluable resources for taking action.

womenspeakscotland.com/

Another invaluable resource! Details on consulations, petitions, crowdfunders, etc.

This is just a start, do feel free to add your own suggestions, letter templates, links (or descriptions of where to find them if ti's a petition or a crowdfunder that isn't allowed a direct link)

Where can I buy a ribbon with the stripes please? I would like to attach one to a bag, or make a small brooch.

Just sticking in a link to a thread on the new guidance for children, for anyone wanting to read/write about it:

@Scout2016

Upcoming Demo.
Bumping the information Please if you can attend from wherever you are we would appreciate your support. This will affect all women of the UK , and beyond if the precedent is allowed in Scotland.
Scout2016 · 16/08/2021 16:16

Thanks @Rhannion
I have done a separate thread for it too, asking if anyone is going or involved. Are you? I'm asking because my sister is planning attending, she is in her 30s and has never been to a Demo or on a march before and it has caused a rift with a friend that she's going. But that's a whole other thread! I wanted to reassure her decent mumsnetters will be there.

Would love to go to the demo but holidays all used up to cover child care over the summer

Yes, it's childcare that scunners these things for me, most often, too.

Which is why the marches attended by younger students are often well attended, I realised recently. No family commitments, etc. I had no idea, as a demonstrating student, of how spare time is its own kind of privilege!

That’s a great point Arabella. It’s the same with Marion’s hearing being moved again. Children are back at school and it’s early on the Tuesday morning. Almost like it’s been done deliberately...
