I don't know who Dorasalter is, but this is amazing:

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/08/2021 12:10

That was a very moving poem. Smile

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/08/2021 12:13

Brilliant. Powerful and moving.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/08/2021 12:22

Wow. Amazing.

Puddycatfan · 03/08/2021 18:07

I felt that right from my stomach...(hope that makes sense!)

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2021 20:09
@ErrolTheDragon Thank you. Yes I have! Smile
Lately I've been listing all the derogatory words for women that exist in the English language. (There are a lot!)
I'd like to put them together in a kind of "these are a few of my favourite things" or "I am the very model of a modern major general" type of format.
Just a long list of the shitty ways to refer to women, really.
It would be great to collaborate if anyone wants to join in. xxxxxx
That sounds like fun.

Hugs to you all, and thank you. Flowers

Sorry, the summer holiday chaos is not the best backdrop. I'm stupidly excited to be connecting with like-minded and amazing women (and men to be fair).
Wish I could give proper replies and spend more time and have proper conversations on this forum, and on Twitter.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the pause button on my son. (Advice welcome. Grin)

Rhannion · 03/08/2021 21:07

@dorasalter

That's me! Grin

I'm on Mumsnet normally under a different handle (although not really active these days, mostly sporadic lurking).

I'm not a writer, and I really wanted to do justice to women, so I'm relieved that you felt what I felt, and I'm grateful to you for reading and sharing.

Being on Mumsnet made me realise, a few years back, how awesome women can be, and that was my first real visceral step into understanding feminism and what it's all about. So getting a mention on here really means a lot to me.

So I've changed names, really just to say hello and thank you. Flowers

It’s brilliant, thank you. Hope it’s shared far and wide

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the pause button on my son.

Try a doorframe bouncer (unless he's a teenager)

dorasalter · 03/08/2021 21:43

@Thelnebriati
Ha ha, he's five. Do they do those bungee ropes for 5-yr-olds? Grin

In all seriousness, I could write a bloody saga about how shit Covid has been for kids.

I feel like I owe this summer to him.

That said, I could massively do with a day or two to myself, I won't lie.Wine

AMCoffeePMWine · 04/08/2021 05:25

This was wonderful, and very touching. I followed you too!

dorasalter · 05/08/2021 21:06

@AMCoffeePMWine Thank you too xx

Really wasn't expecting such lovely responses.

FindTheTruth · 05/08/2021 21:10

@dorasalter ❤️❤️❤️so beautiful. Please can you ask 'Radical Notion' to add it for prosperity? so it's not lost in digital space

TheABC · 05/08/2021 21:21

dorasalter · 05/08/2021 22:11

@Findthetruth, thank you for suggesting. I saw a similar comment on Twitter this morning, and so I've submitted to Radical Notion. They'll let me know in due course if it's selected. I'll keep you posted. xxxx

Jorrris · 06/08/2021 19:58

Love this.♥️

Hi Dorasalter

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/08/2021 20:17

@dorasalter You should submit your poem to the Radical Notion theradicalnotion.org/

Each issue has amazing poems and I think yours should join them Flowers

Nellodee · 06/08/2021 20:27

This made me cry, in a very good way.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 06/08/2021 20:51

What a beautiful and deeply moving poem., thanks Dora. Inspiring too. We owe it to those silenced women to speak up for women now. I hope the Radical Notion publishes it.

dorasalter · 07/08/2021 19:01

Thank you so much @Jorrris Grin

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine (Loving the handle, admiring the optimism!) Thank you, and I'll let you know if I hear back. xxx

@Nellodee Thank you, that means a lot. I wrote the first draft through tears. It was mostly tears of frustration because anybody with a stake in this needs to understand what women are up against - and that our current struggles are rooted in our history.
But so many people are just not interested. It made me want to scream "Look! Look at what it means to be a woman!" That's what the poem was, for me.

@thinkingaboutLangCleg
Thank you so much. Yes we do. We owe it to the silenced women in the past, and now. But mostly I feel like we owe our daughters and granddaughters a chance to have a voice and a presence, in a way that we never had.

With all that said, I'm not hardline, I think most trans women and men have a really shit time of it. I don't want to add to that, and I think dialogue is the answer.

#Nodebate was poison, in my opinion.

Thanks again to you all. Flowers

And I'd buy a poster with this poem on it! ... just a thought 💐
FindTheTruth · 08/08/2021 09:50

There's a another thread on here atm where the OP's husband and kids are questioning why she cares. This poem says it all for me. we are all being called. "It’s the clarion call of a common mother"

RaininSummer · 08/08/2021 09:59

That is powerful and beautiful. Love this line, 'the clarion call of a common mother/and all of her daughter's contingency other'. Made me think of Mumsnet and how I have been introduced to do many amazing women here.

FindTheTruth · 08/08/2021 10:00

ditto Rainin

RaininSummer · 08/08/2021 10:34

We were writing at the same time there as I was very slow :)
