Women's initiative to reclaim our pronouns

Many of the women on here have mentioned how in their organisations they are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their job. Or being made to feel like a hateful person. Being unable to say anything if the boss starts on the pronouns nonsense in their emails.

Mention of how powerful the Lobby group Stonewall have become in many UK companies and institutions. Mention of money and the cost to counteract this. How about a cost free way to fight back. You are many. Make a difference. So I’ve come up with an idea. A tactic.

You change your email sig to different pronouns for the 7 days of the week. And make them absolutely crazy ones. There is more than one way to skin a cat. If all the women on here in organisations where people are at the pronoun thing did the same wouldn't that be a wonderful initiative to show how crazy the whole thing is. This is cost free and easy for all of us to do.

I leave it to the fine women on here to consider if this is a good idea or not. And can't wait to see emails with

Xe/Xer on Wednesday ...... Let your imaginations run wild.

I have wondered how effective it might be to just embrace it all. If everyone jumps on board then a) nobody's 'special' and b) the headache of dealing with it all becomes the problem of the organisations who are being swept up in it.

I don't think it's a good idea overall - I think ignoring is best - but the temptation is there...

Not really suggesting we embrace it. More we take it on by being over the top with it. To demonstrate how crazy it is. But I do like the notion you have there of it meaning a) nobody's special. As regards b) the headache for organisations, those that brought in Stonewall, pity about them and they'll soon drop the nonsense if it's a problem to handle. Imagine telling you boss who is into the pronoun crazy that's he's discriminated against you in an email if he didn't refer to you as Zag because it's Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

I agree it's fun and tempting. Until you are emailing externally and then it has an impact on others outside of the organisation. Or people who report to you who might think you are mocking them especially if they are pronoun advocates.
