A ‘Woman: Adult Human Female’ billboard put up by grassroots feminist organisation ‘Speak Up For Women’’ (SUFW) lasted less than half a day in central Wellington yesterday before it was pulled down on the order of ‘traumatised’ shop owners who rent the building the poster space is rented.

SUFW have been trying to gather for meetings around the country to discuss the legislation that is being pushed through by stealth by the current Labour Govt allowing self ID on birth certificates, passports etc.

Meetings have been shut down by local councillors claiming that SUFW are a ‘hate group’. SUFW won a high court appeal to continue to hold meetings in public spaces around the country, as the judge said, SUFW are not a hate group and those who claim otherwise are irrational.

The billboard put up in Wellington was in advance of the SUFW meeting which will be held tomorrow night at the Michael Fowler Centre at 6pm (thursday).

Wellington Mayor Andy Foster who has charged residents a 16% rates increase and quite frankly looks as if he couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery judging by the dire mess Wellington is in with its sewage, street crime and housing, has joined forces with two other TRA councillors by financing lighting up of the Michael Fowler /centre roof in Transgender flag colours ahead of the meeting to virtue signal and to intimidate women from attending the meeting.

It is chilling in NZ currently,, and as the govt continues to advocate pushing through hate speech laws, this billboard shines a light on what women who speak up for their rights in NZ can expect in future.

Some pictures. A beautiful billboard. And lights that are rather jazzy but not a good colour match for the trans flag. Hmm

looks like Purple green and white lights? Do you think they've been trolled?

eurochick · 13/07/2021 23:00

😮😮😮

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/07/2021 23:01

If that's meant to be the pink and blue trans flag, it definitely looks like the purple green and white suffragette colours. But it could just be the picture quality/lighting.

quixote9 · 14/07/2021 02:45

There is justice! I love the trans flag transmogrification Grin

Seriously. What's happening here is beyond depressing. From what I know of New Zealanders, if they were paying attention, this would be over yesterday. They have no use for fancy pants performative anything.

Although I'm not so sure they're as clear on women's civil rights. This is, after all, the place that has yet to rethink the idea legalizing buying women on time share plans.

Good as Ardern is on some things, she's gone for the trans BS 100% because she thinks that's what's popular. And since nobody is paying attention except a bunch of wokeists in Wellie, that's all she hears.

Sad

Posie had a chat to Ro Edge from Speak Up for Women yesterday

Interestingly, she says that because the billboard company caved, a man in Christchuch who owns one of the buildings they use to put their boards on has said they can no longer use his wall - it sounds as if it is because they removed the billboard, not because they agreed to put it up in the first place (I hope so, anyway)

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/07/2021 07:17

Nancy, yep, that's right, he's reacting to them taking the billboard down. I saw his announcement posted somewhere.

ferfaffle · 17/07/2021 01:34

I saw on Newshub that the protestors had urged the mayor to declare a state of emergency to protect Wellington against the event (the meeting of SUFW), saying that it classified as an emergency for their community and that this would 'reflect the severity of the situation.'

I genuinely can't believe it's not satire. It's like Titania McGrath.

PrettyPoncho · 17/07/2021 04:05

Did you see this irritating article? The implication being that women who try to speak up for their rights are really transphobes. i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/gender-and-society/300356898/settling-the-debate-oldtime-politicians-grasping-at-gender-and-race-for-relevance

Guineapigbridge · 17/07/2021 04:27

Fleur Fitzsimons has skin in the game. She has a transgender kid.

Guineapigbridge · 17/07/2021 04:29

I can't see many people who are prepared to disagree with the transgender lobby in Wellington. They're right to be scared; Wellington is a massively woke town full of people who want to be seen to be doing the 'right thing'.

PrettyPoncho · 17/07/2021 06:47

It is just like Titania McGrath! Maybe Andrew Doyle can make her come from Wellington.

Sophoclesthefox · 17/07/2021 07:37

Jesus. Not much of a surprise from Wellington, I suppose, but still.

Solidarity to Kiwi women, this sounds like the situation here a couple of years ago, so take heart that the juggernaut can be slowed, at least.

ScreamingMeMe · 17/07/2021 08:52

Stop trying to make "Woman is a social category" happen. It's not going to happen.

This sort of thing brings sunlight and more people wake up to what is happening so yes, take heart. The Woman poster being removed will have brought lots of publicity, just like it did when Posie did it, though alas, I don't think they will have the opportunity for a repeat TV news interview like the Posie v Dr Harrop one.

OldCrone · 17/07/2021 10:01

That 'definition' isn't a definition. What is the 'experience of gender' that they're feeling based on? It doesn't say how the woman social category is different from the man social category.

It would be good to see that fleshed out a bit in a debate.

A: "So give us an example of the "feeling" of woman?"
B: "Oh, well, I feel more nurturing for one, as a woman."
A:"Are you saying that a man couldnt be nurturing?"
B: Oh no, just that women are traditionally seen as more nurturing."
A: But are women inherently more nurturing, or is that a social construct in and of itself? Is a man incapable of being nurturing, or are we telling our children that they must be a woman in order to be seen as nurturing?
B: "..."

Wow a state of emergency, those women's thoughts must be pretty scary!
WeeBisom · 17/07/2021 13:10

At the bottom of that “social definition” it says “conflating vaginas with womanhood is stupid.” They are really such children… “it’s STUPID!” they pout. And for the millionth time … we aren’t “conflating” vaginas with womanhood. We simply say that women are the only ones who have vaginas , not that women ARE vaginas and nothing more.

And as others have pointed out their social definition makes no sense. It states that woman is a gender but doesn’t disambiguate womanhood from manhood, non binary or any other of the other genders!

korimako90 · 18/07/2021 00:54

@PrettyPoncho that article by the student intern at Stuff (‘of course a male as well) is so bad it’s good. the only consolation is that It is all there in black and white never to be forgotten when the chickens come home to roost about how absolutely disgraceful (and captured) the NZ media has been on women’s rights.

No negative articles about Laurel Hubbard’s inclusion in the mainstream media either…just congratulatory puff pieces on how ‘progressive’ us woque kiwis are.

Yep, it’s feeling pretty bleak here in NZ. But we have always been famous for being a nation of sheep that is proudly anti-intellectual, so go figure.
