Another awesome song from Francis Aaron. This one is incredibly heavy on details, but it works well.

[quote NonnyMouse1337]He has posted a detailed account of the background and research that inspired and informed his song. I'm impressed that he has really taken the effort to understand the issues and that shows in the lyrics. Plus feminists get a respectful acknowledgement which makes him a good 'un in my books.

His research is really solid.

The tunes are so catchy.

From his twitter, he is now working on a sport-Olympic one. He's getting a lot of good links already!

This is brilliant.

SqueakyPeaks · 21/07/2021 12:42

That's fab. I'm definitely going to get the t-shirt made with "Human Beings aren't Clownfish" Grin

Thanks for that link and the links to his twitter feed. It didn't take long before one of the usual subjects turned up and supposedly reported him. I then found this article on the feed, which really hits the nail on the head.

"In the name of emotional well-being, college students are increasingly demanding protection from words and ideas they don’t like. Here’s why that’s disastrous for education—and mental health."

Totally going to be muttering "human beings aren't clownfish" all day now

OldTurtleNewShell · 21/07/2021 16:24

Oh wow. So good.

OldTurtleNewShell · 21/07/2021 16:30

Just listening to his other tracks now. The man has an incredibly evocative way with words.

JustcameoutGC · 22/07/2021 06:45

I just read the chapter in Helen Joyce's book Trans that mentions clownfish. This song was cycling round my head.

What is it that has made young adults like this? I mean I was born in the late 70s. We were far from wealthy but my 80s childhood was fantastic. My 90s teens were great. My life was never perfect but I was constantly safe, secure and loved. I was fairly politically active, left wing-liberal, from my early teens. (To be fair, as an Irish person we had an awful lot of theocratically influenced laws to overthrow.)

And it's not like the world is perfect? There are exploited, oppressed people living genuinely terrible lives all over the world. If young people desperately need to be activists, why not take up work to help people in real need? Why do they need to be the oppressed ones? My take on life has always been that I am incredibly lucky to be alive in this time and place and I'd like everyone alive now and in the future to be able to have at least the same opportunities.
