The Independent Working Group on Misogyny and Criminal Justice in Scotland, chaired by Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, has been set up to independently consider how the Scottish criminal justice system deals with misogyny. The purpose of this survey is for the working group to gain information on lived experience of misogyny and your views on how to tackle it. This survey will ask you about your direct experience of misogyny, the impact that experience has had on you, whether or not you reported this incident, and also your opinions on interventions to tackle misogyny.
There is no agreed definition of misogyny in Scotland currently. For the purposes of this survey it can be thought of as: a way of thinking that upholds the primary status of men and a sense of male entitlement, while subordinating women and limiting their power and freedom. Conduct based on this thinking can include a range of abusive or controlling behaviours; such conduct can be conscious or unconscious, and women themselves can be socialised to believe that this is the natural order. This behaviour/conduct can include (but is not limited to) being made to feel undermined or belittled, receiving gendered comments, or being the victim of verbal and non-verbal harassment and assault.
Who is this survey for and what will it involve?
This survey is open to those aged 18 and over only, and it is expected that it will take 5-10 minutes to complete. The survey will ask you questions about your experiences of misogynistic behaviour and what you think should be done about it.
