4 lone women have reported they were sexually harassed by the security guards whilst in quarantine hotels.

Disgusting abusive of power.

Disgusting Angry

The pandemic has been a disaster for women and children Sad

drspouse · 26/06/2021 06:55

That's horrendous.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was happening in Australia too.
OP did you put this in Sex and Gender or aren't we allowed any topics with the word "sex" on the other board?

Melitza · 26/06/2021 06:59

Nothing will be done.
The quarantine hotels are run by the most basic people at the most basic standards.
It's all about profit.

I did post it in Feminism. Do you think it’s worthwhile posting in AIBU for greater traffic?

I think that this is the right place to post, AIBU might be good too.

It is awful. It really says a lot about men’s attitudes to women in society in general. I hope that these particular men will no longer be employed in this capacity. The company seriously needs to look at who it is employing, how it is training them and perhaps also how much they are being paid (the might need to improve pay and conditions to get a better calibre of employee).

This is no doubt connected to the ubiquity of pornography, and the knock impact that has on women and girls in every aspect of life.

DaisiesandButtercups · 26/06/2021 07:47

These poor women, it must have been so stressful and terrifying. What disgusting and intimidating behaviour to have to put up with. It doesn’t sound like any of this behaviour was properly acted on. I imagine that there are many more than 4 cases. These same men at least would have had more than one victim each no doubt.

Temp023 · 26/06/2021 07:53

Is this a surprise? How many single women have ever felt entirely safe in a hotel? Add in a bunch of presumably, rather rapidly recruited men and there you go.
I’m only incredulous that things haven’t been worse!

Do all posts that go into the Feminism topic automatically default to Sex and Gender Debate now?

I'm so confused.

But in response to your OP, I read that article. It was horrifying. So sleazy, and nothing seemed to happen as a result of those women doing the right thing and reporting it to the hotel and the security company.

I think so. I have a direct link to Feminism (old board), clicked on it and it sent me here.

It really does.

I’m a teacher and the Ofsted findings about sexual harassment in schools sadly didn’t shock me. What angered me was the response to those findings. That as a teacher I need inset to deal with it and it’ll therefore be my responsibility to solve misogyny in society.

Just seen someone has posted it on the feminism chat. Not sure how my post ended up here!

DaisiesandButtercups · 26/06/2021 08:19

I don’t know how teachers can reasonably be expected to solve misogyny in society. It is enough to keep girls safe in school, but you need support and tools/structures to do even that! For example what are the sanctions for a boy sexually harassing a girl in school? Do girls feel able to tell teachers, do they have confidence that the behaviour will be dealt with? I definitely didn’t feel able to tell teachers and I feel sure that nothing would be done anyway, we girls just had to put up with the sexual comments, the groping etc

However I really think the government needs to step up and legislate that all pornography must be behind a paywall and tech companies must remove any that isn’t and then that verification of identity and age is required to access it.

motherrunner · 26/06/2021 08:30

Absolutely. Pornography has a lot to blame with how males view females and even how females view themselves.

Pupils are rightly punished for resist or homophobic remarks. Make a misogynistic comment and it’s ‘boys will be boys’.

I'm starting to agree, so many say it's not harmful but social media has blurred the lines.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 26/06/2021 08:54

Yes i read this the other day, i agree that there are probably a lot more victims

Just shocking
