The NAO say:

We are carrying out a value for money study on whether the child maintenance system is delivering value for money for children, separated parents and the taxpayer. A brief description of the scope of our work can be found here.

To help us with our audit, we would like to hear from you about your experience of the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). This consultation will be open until midday, Friday, 30 July 2021. We are aiming to publish our value for money report towards the end of 2021.

Oh dear this isn't going to go well for them🤭

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 24/06/2021 18:42

I am desperate for NAO to get all of the responses that they need in as full a detailed account as is proportionate to CMS' performance and its impact on parents and children.

Outhere · 24/06/2021 19:16

The CMS would benefit from some legislation that actually gives a shit about children. There seems little appetite for that. There's no point arguing over the inadequacies of the CMS when the legislative framework is so poor and values the needs and rights of children so little. I've still responded mind.

If you are part of any local online networks, facebooks groups, etc., please share so they get as much feedback as possible.

In fact, any advice as to which other section on mumsnet this should maybe be posted?

I wonder if MNHQ would be prepared to give some helpful advice on this as it's a topic that is hugely relevant to the users of this site.

I’d post it in relationships.
Not in the uk so no point in me commenting but in Australia where I live one of the most effective ways of getting arrears out of non payers is that our cms and passports are linked. so if someone with arrears tried to travel abroad when their passport is scanned the arrears are flagged and they are not permitted to leave until the arrears are cleared.

This could make such a huge difference to so many resident parents and clearly the technology exists. So please think about suggesting it. I also think that based on what people have said about self employed people claiming their income is lower than what it really is that travel abroad should trigger a review of their payments.

Value for money if you NRP who hell bent on shirking financial responsibilities.

If NRP pays at least something (not amount supposed too) each quarter then they not end up in CMS none paying parent published statistics.

No other gov dept would allow monies to go unpaid like they have for children.

As for service during lockdown they rank 1st place as useless catering only for NRP

Why is this on the Sex and Gender Debate board? Confused

SpaceRaiders · 24/06/2021 20:53

I seemed to recall seeing this pinned someplace on here already.

Some American state have a similar system. Your driving license needs to renewed annually - if you have unpaid child maintenance you can’t renew your driving license or drive.
SpaceRaiders · 24/06/2021 21:01

On the point of the self employed; any system that relies on people’s honesty will always be open to misuse. I’ve never quite understood why no one checks what you’re submitting and no proof is required either. It’d make it far less likely for anyone to under declare income for the purpose of avoiding CM.

stumbledin · 25/06/2021 00:04

GetTheeToTheGulag - because everybody apart from mumsnet knows this is the Feminism and Women's Rights board where issue of relevance to women are discussed.

Thanks to suggestions of where else to post - I was searching for a welfare support board, I didn't even know there was a campaign board!

Will look at relationships. As said above important it gets the widest feedback possible.

Lone Parents section also but most likely to be aware if on Twitter.

stumbledin · 25/06/2021 00:18

Have just searched whole site, and apart from not knowing about Campaigns, found Lone Parents so have posted there (which I see Wallpapering has just suggested).

It looks like it has also been on AIBU and ... another one I forgot to note down. (I think is was on AIBU follwoing a discussion in the HoL and the poster thought is was a scam - a pretend consultation, a way to just make it easier to wipe off unpaid maintenance earlier. Sad )

Oh well, just hope more women who have had to use this service will find time to respond.
