Was listening to this interview between Brendan O'Neill and Paul Embery and so cheered up to hear both of them robustly defend the rights of women to discuss the trans issue and the impact on us. Starts around 45 mins in.

Brendan O'Neill's been pretty solid since the start - done a number of good articles. He's been one of the best mainstream male reporters on it.

(Best has been James Kirkup, I think.)

Were you intending to include a link?

Gah, yes, sorry forgot to post the link. Thanks, Necessary!

Thanks for the link. It's so encouraging to see a man from the left defending women's rights, it's rare these days.

I've really enjoyed listening to Paul Embery whenever I've heard him in debate or interviewed. I don't necessarily agree with him on everything but he certainly has a more appealing vision for the future of Labour politics than is currently on offer.

Good on 'em. (I do wish it was way more common, so I didn't need to feel like I was about to burst into tears at the relief of getting some support!)

If only Paul or someone like him had a chance of being Labour Leader. We need this sort of strength/confidence and sanity. He isn’t afraid to state his opinions because he reached them through rational thought. He isn’t trying to please anyone but just to make his case. His ideas and approach would unite more than divide. Labour needs more like this and not to be afraid of losing party members if it means gaining votes.

NonnyMouse1337 · 15/06/2021 07:32

Thanks will have a listen. I've always enjoyed listening to Paul Embery. I wish Labour had someone like him in the leadership.

I listened to the whole interview and it is good. I was in the shower so didn’t get the timestamp for the srart of the women’s rights/GC/trans discussion but it was in full swing by 48 mins so try around the 45/46 min mark if you are pressed.

Mixed feelings. I’m delighted when a Labour politician has the courage and integrity to defend women’s rights. But also depressed by how rare this is. Tories are currently the least bad option for women. That’s painful to a lifelong socialist.

Tell me about it. For the first time in my life I am actually contemplating voting Tory at the next election. Honestly never thought that day would come, but Keir's recent endorsement of self ID was pretty much the last nail in the coffin for my support of Labout.

That's true for me too. I can't believe I'm looking at the Tories.
