#WomensMarch #EndVAWG

Come join your sisters in protesting against male violence against women and girls.

Where: Emmeline Pankhurst Statue Saint Peter’s Square

So far this year 56 women have been killed by men or where a man is the principal suspect.

This has got to stop.

Bring your banners, come make a noise, come and say no to male violence.

Enough Is Enough!

Wear Suffragette Colours

One of biggest thing to stop murder by domestic violence is safe permanent housing. Had to go back to violent partner cos was in serious danger of homeless when left still sick with fear of no housing so better to have domestic violence as better than homeless or dangerous hostel. Councils mess you around and try not to help and all postcode lottery with support.

Muddydoor · 15/06/2021 01:43

I’m sorry you felt you had to go back, @nosafeguardingadults. Did you try calling womensaid or any refuges? Are you safe now?

SpindleWhorl · 15/06/2021 01:50

I hope the new Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police can be prevailed upon to properly protect the women exercising their rights to peaceful protest.

endofthelinefinally · 15/06/2021 11:06

I hope it doesn't get hijacked by organisations with ulterior motives.

Yes, was just about to say it's great that it's being organised by non lib-fems and not fringe loons like Sisters Uncut.

I doubt the groups in question would let it be hijacked.

endofthelinefinally · 15/06/2021 13:35

Can they stop these groups turning up? I really hope so and I hope the police will be organised and knowledgeable.

Oh yes same. They will cause trouble if they do. Didn't they protest a demo against sexual abuse or something?
DrMorbius · 15/06/2021 14:34

Real question, not meant to be argumentative.
Why women only?

stumbledin · 15/06/2021 14:44

Why women only - because part of the purpose (IMO) is that it not only provides a safe space when marching (too many male protestors see marches as an opportunity to pick a fight with the police - or each other!) but to make sure the public and the auhtorities that women are angry, and we aren't going to take it any more.

It has been known in the past in the UK, and happens currently in other countries, that men have organised demonstrations against male violence.

And quite honestly if the organisers want a women only march that's their choice. If you want something different organise it yourself.

And yes there is nothing you can do to stop parasitic political groups like Sisters Uncut turning up (a bit like the SWP) and it was because they arrived at the peaceful respectful vigil for Sarah Everard, with political banners and loud hailers that it became violence. Partly by the way because the police were trying to stop them encouraging the crowd to move into a smaller and smaller space. If you have ever had the experience of nearly being trampled by a crowd that is out of control, it might be the one ocassion you are grateful for a police line.

I got side track by the inevitable question about women only. Honestly.

I am not in any way involved in the organising as actually started this thread because I want to add to the originally thread that seems to have disappeared.

This is about the fact that with the extention of the lockdown some arrangement have had to be changed.

So keep an eye on the facebook page. even if you aren't on facebook you can still read the discussion there, but have to keep flicking away the irritating box asking to sign up to facebook.
