I am shouting "women, not people" at the television. At least the victims they are talking to are obviously female.

It just looks so contrived.

I know men are victims too, maybe they should have included one, it would have made the terminology more sensible.

We'll it is the BBC. The same company who had Chris Packham tell the nation last week, that 'horses are ruminants' and that 'pigs are herbivores'. Trust them not in matters of biology....

Can someone please fill in the details for the benefit of those of us stuck at work instead of watching it?

JustbackfromBangkok · 13/06/2021 21:11

Sorry. It was an item about domestuc abuse in rural areas. Lots of statistics about how many people experience abuse. How a person can get advice etc. They did interview 3 women who had experienced coercive control/ abuse for years. The word woman wasnt mentioned at all. However, on reflection I wonder if they had to avoid mentioning the sex of victim and perpetrator, but the reporter used 3 examples of female victims. I suppose the BBCcontrols the language, if not the actual story. It was so obvious it was cringeworthy.

Thought that I was the only one who noticed this. If they were going to use the word people then they should have given figures to show X% of victims were male and X% female.

I always wondered who watched countryfile because it's certainly not farmers any more.

Farming livestock relies on knowing the difference between males and females.

Rural domestic abuse probably isn't more prevalent than anywhere else, it's just easier not to get heard by the neighbours and better access to firearms.

Horses aren't ruminants, pigs are definitely not herbivores and Chris Packham's completely misguided crusades are causing far more damage to the countryside than can ever be imagined.

To us farmers Packham is equivalent to LOJ, foxylawyer, and Stephy combined.

I highly recommend Jeremy Clarkson's new show on Prime if anyone wants their hit of countryside capers without any wokiness (or misogyny, surprisingly) in sight.

The Jeremy Clarkson farming show is excellent. And I normally hate Jeremy Clarkson

Thought the point about access to GPs was interesting. I hadn't thought about video and telephone calls now being the norm could increase abuse as these calls can now be controlled by the abuser.

Watched it. All that emphasis on colts vs fillies, yet when it came to humans there was an inability to recognise sex.

NannyAndJohn · 13/06/2021 22:12

Packham is always an instant switchover for me.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 13/06/2021 23:38

Scrowy, absolutely agree with you. We are farmers and one member of my family watches country file for the weather. We usually have a good laugh about the nonsense that they spout, although mostly it just raises the blood pressure.
That Packham is uneducated,is the kindest thing that I can say about him. After a year where countless horses have been killed because people are feeding them stuff that they shouldn't be eating,or just feeding them full stop, it's incredibly stupid and dangerous to state such rubbish. I don't know how he gets away with it.
