Diversity Training

Well I managed to complete my online diversity course at last. What a slog.

Only reference to sex discrimination was in regard to assumptions about childcare and treatment around maternity leave. In contrast, there was a huge chunk on trans rights. It was legally accurate but had lots of advice on right think.

I'm trying not to give it too much credance as I doubt there's any influence over policy at our place...not that I've seen much anyway..but it was pretty awful.

Loads of links to Stonewall for good advice and to Stephen Whittle I'm not sure who he is or what he says though I will check him out). Said we should use they/them until told otherwise for everyone, and that allyship can be signified by using pronouns in email signatures.

It also said everyone has a gender identity and talked about cisgender people. Good job I'm working at home because I shouted fuck off at my screen.

Do you think training will stay like this or be dialled back after yesterday's judgement?

SW was heavily involved in GRA 2004. Lots of threads about SW's activities if you pop this into your preferred search engine.

When you say a huge chunk - out of the whole session, what % would you say? How much dedicated to people with disabilities?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/06/2021 21:25

It also said everyone has a gender identity and talked about cisgender people

This is the same shit they tell school kids.
It pisses me off so much. 99+% of people do not have a 'gender identity'. It's a niche belief of a tiny portion of the population.

There is also zero need for 'cis'

Thank god I wasn’t on there. I would have been rolling my eyes, puffing out my cheeks and making farty noises with my armpits. I have no patience these days.

Scuse me - what’s gender?
Scuse me - I don’t have one!
Scuse me - what’s cis?
It’s a what now? Nope that’s just silly. Nah.
Scuse me - when are we going to talk about age and sex discrimination?
Scuse me - what about people with disabilities?
Scuse me - are you getting paid to do this? How much?
Scuse me - say c*s once more and I’m going to reach through this pc screen and smack you about the head with this ‘ere stapler...

Proportionally the numbers of people whose rights and treatment at work are affected by sex, disability, ethnicity, sexuality or age is huge compared to those affected because of their gender identity. It's unbelievable that diversity in the workplace has come to mean one thing only.

It’s cheaper than installing ramps, accessible loos buying specialist software or BSL translators.

It was an online pre recorded course so no opportunity to moan but on the upside could swear at my computer screen without anyone knowing.

It did cover all groups but I didn't feel sex based discrimination was well covered and not in proportion to others either. It was badly designed too. Found it infuriating in its layout and design.

It felt very much a tick box but there were no further information links for sex discrimination that's for sure.
