Go Madeleine (Groves)!

"Let this be a lesson to all misogynistic perverts in sport and their boot lickers -- You can no longer exploit young women and girls, body shame or medically gaslight them and then expect them to represent you so you can earn your annual bonus. Time’s UP," she tweeted.

This is horrible and not to be celebrated. I have personal experience of gymnastics and how toxic that sport is. I'm really sorry that she's had these bad experiences and she won't be able to compete as a result.

Hopefully appropriate justice will be served.

There’s a podcast on BBC Sounds about child abuse and a former Irish swimming coach called Where is George Gibney.

It’s both utterly heartbreaking and rage inducing.

This programme is horrifying, isn't it? And the establishment in Ireland, the political and legal system, helped cover it up. Those poor women have still not seen justice, and that fucker lives free in Florida. And yet, we are supposed to look at Ireland as some sort of shining beacon of inclusivity, because they allowed the self ID lobby to piggy back the decades long work of women to get abortion legalised.

I’m not seeing anything substantial in her explanation.

Someone in swimming stared at her in her swimsuit then got promoted. Someone else made a “creepy” comment then apologised shortly afterward.

I’m not saying these things are okay, but I want to know more. It’s a very public stance to take and a very big dream for her to give up.

By the sounds of it the starer was not a one off.

Also she may well not have said everything.

Also if that's what she says is the reason then I'll assume that she's genuine and not massively over reacting or something unless it turns out otherwise.

Elite sportspeople are extremely resilient and determined etc by definition so seems unlikely she'd do this unless it was pretty serious.

This reminded me of Athlete A on Netflix amd the brave women who stood up to Larry Nassar and USAG's toxic misogyny and sexual abuse.

...and how British Gymnastics changed their leotard uniforms in 2019, despite years of asking for something different but the young women and girls were ignored, but in 2019 guess who asked and received?

It’s a very public stance to take and a very big dream for her to give up.

She must be really pissed off. I'm going to take her word for it.

Oh I’m not doubting her. It’s simply that what’s stated in the link doesn’t compute with me. I’m waiting for the rest of the story, I suppose, because as mentioned upthread, it’s highly unusual for elite athletes to give up. Will watch with interest.

Fair enough, hopefully either more women will come forward or more will be revealed.

It does sounds like the tip of the iceberg.
