Interesting piece, it's been clear for a while the conservative party don't want to touch the issue but unfortunately the proposed reform of the GRA happened on their watch. It's a relief to see some are now prepared to comment.

Shame he couldn't get Simon Fanshawe's name right.

Yes, it's a good piece (though if anyone is signed up and can comment, you might just want to point out it's Simon, not Stephen, Fanshawe).

And another one on Conservative Woman about Stonewall trying to abolish the word Mother. Tongue in cheek but a good read.

The conservatives, as government embraced stonewall. They allowed government departments, schools and hospitals to sign up to their diversity programme.

Their attitude to the consultation around the GRA was strange - they seemed to assume the outcome before the analysis and didn't stop government departments getting ahead of the law.

For a very long time, it wasnt just that it was difficult to talk about trans issues, the public were unaware of changes being force through. Therefore, once these proposals came to light, any push back was seen as taking rights away.

Considering how positive LGBT issues are seen, it's strange how under the radar these changes were made. It's as if they knew all along thay these policies were 'controversial'.

I think the government, or the conservative party or mps are reframing it as a difficult subject, ignoring the role they played in making it that way.

What I think is key is the ministers/MPs didn't know/realise. It was the STAFF pushing through excluding woman as adult human female, excluding woman from the parliamentary mat leave bill, etc.

I would like to know WHO is writing policy inside the Departments. Yes they will be civil servants, on the fast track in Whitehall. Who is assaying the policy changes?

Sorry to ramble, bloody hell if you can make sense of that you're a star.
