The conservatives, as government embraced stonewall. They allowed government departments, schools and hospitals to sign up to their diversity programme.
Their attitude to the consultation around the GRA was strange - they seemed to assume the outcome before the analysis and didn't stop government departments getting ahead of the law.
For a very long time, it wasnt just that it was difficult to talk about trans issues, the public were unaware of changes being force through. Therefore, once these proposals came to light, any push back was seen as taking rights away.
Considering how positive LGBT issues are seen, it's strange how under the radar these changes were made. It's as if they knew all along thay these policies were 'controversial'.
I think the government, or the conservative party or mps are reframing it as a difficult subject, ignoring the role they played in making it that way.
