No holiday pay or minimum wage but you can have whatever pronouns you like

Yes this kind of performative inclusivity is a gift for organisations who have to do very little to be perceived as progressive. Meanwhile parents sometimes have to go to court to get suitable school provision for kids with disabilities.

Shout out to when "inclusion" was about making services genuinely accessible to people with disabilities.

Orangecircling · 09/06/2021 11:58

This is actually pathetic. I use deliveroo and the delivery people are invariably not English speaking. I imagine this bs is the last thing they have to worry about.

You've gotta ask yourself why you get so heated about things that have no impact on your life.

Can't be good for your health.

Yes, you're so right. Other people having no holiday pay or minimum wage has no impact on my life.

But some people care about other people. Enough to get 'heated' about it.

Try it.

TedImgoingmad · 09/06/2021 12:16

You've gotta ask yourself why some people campaign for irrelevant, white centric, western imperialist, middle class privileges like pronoun use, but don't give a stuff if these people earn enough money to buy the food that they have to deliver.

All of this
TedImgoingmad · 09/06/2021 12:19

Being an uncaring knob end, whose narcissism doesn't allow me to feel compassion for minimum wage/zero contract/ immigrant workers, would definitely be bad for my mental health. I couldn't live with myself.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/06/2021 12:21

LGBTTQQIAAP

Seriously?

AnyOldPrion · 09/06/2021 12:22

Performative inclusivity sounds about right. My son looked into working for them and was told that in order to make any money, you have to take risks with cycling speed, and that even then, they don’t “employ” you. They pay you per trip and potentially take on loads more people than they need, all of whom are then hanging around unpaid until something comes in. I was very disappointed to hear it, as it seemed a good idea to have deliveries on bikes in cities.

Not really relevant to women’s rights or feminism though.

Isn't it the moral and ethical thing to do, to use any privilege you do have to fight for people with less? Personally I feel happier living a broader, less myopic life.

Yet here you are, constantly presiding over these threads, quickly intervening. You seem a little over invested. I worry for your health. Maybe you should take a break. Cool down in a dark room. ☺️

Yes Tellme. Got it in one ✊
NotBadConsidering · 09/06/2021 12:35

Even when there is a clear example of how the left side of politics has lost its way - gender ideology being more important than workers’ rights - those on this forum are still woke-scolded for caring. Would be great if those who think caring about workers’ rights over pronouns could also explain how we are also simultaneously guilty of the so-called “right-wing agenda” accusations Hmm.

That P better be for Pansexual.
teawamutu · 09/06/2021 12:38

Pronoun badge, pennies.

Holiday and sick pay, £££.

One gets kudos, one's ignored.

It's a bastard trick, but you can see why they do it

Quite, and in the economic depression that is sure to follow this pandemic companies are going to be looking at how their competitors keep costs low until this becomes the norm
Forgotthebins · 09/06/2021 12:42

Re LGBTTQQIAAP Someone didn’t roll their head on the keyboard, it means this: www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-33278165

It’s not even a list of marginalised groups as “straight allies” get their own letter now.

So if Deliveroo workers are not employees I guess there are zero maternity benefits?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/06/2021 12:44

🙄 I was imagining the two As were for Asexual and Aromantic.

Did you see that BBC film Killed By My Debit? It was about a young cycle courier who basically from one thing to another got into massive (for him) debt that he couldn't get out of. A lot of theae companies use self employment contracts to get out of being ethical employers so any costs, ie bike repairs, parking/ speeding tickets late delivery penalties are covered by the courier.
DeliverooFan · 09/06/2021 12:45

Slightly off-topic and have NCed for this.
My daughter collapsed on a pavement very poorly half a year ago. Both of us were terrified. I'd noticed beforehand that she was getting very thin and we were waiting on an AN assessment but she wanted a short walk. She couldn't move and I couldn't pick her up. A Deliveroo motorcyclist saw her on the ground, stopped, took her heart-beat, rang 111, gave her his jackets, scooted off for coke and chocolate, ordered us an Uber (for which he refused money for), followed us home and carried her up the stairs. I am forever in debt to this wonderful man.

After my kid came out of hospital I couldn't leave the house for weeks so relied on a lot of last-minute grocery Deliveroo deliveries.

So I do make a point of always now tipping the drivers - if you do it after they've delivered - they get the money and not the company itself.

Forever thankful for that lovely lovely man.

Orangecircling · 09/06/2021 13:21

Is this true, I always tip when I order and thought they get it?

I always always tip as it bothers me so much they are hanging around unpaid. And there are so many in my city competing for the work. I don't think I have seen the same person twice in 3 or 4 years. The Uber taxi drivers all do it too.

The sooner the employment model gets changed the better.

zanahoria · 09/06/2021 13:44

courier riders in London have always been employed with this model, it saves on paying out compensation for accidents.
