If there’s already a thread please let me know.

I’m looking for alternatives to Ocado, Waitrose and John Lewis.

Sainsbury’s have drunk the koolaid - is there a grocer who hasn’t?

Following on from Waitrose’s mealy mouthed reply as posted here

I know this won't be a solution for everyone but my local baker and greengrocer haven't.
Big companies - it's all "rainbow washing" anyway. Easy to stick a few posters up or put a rainbow on your website for the month of June as it doesn't require actually doing much, or spending much money.
They're all doing it because everybody else is.
I wonder if market research shows them that it makes any difference to how much customers spend with them - as that's really going to be all they care about.

DdraigGoch · 07/06/2021 10:15

Like the previous poster, I seldom use supermarkets in favour of small businesses.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 07/06/2021 10:25

Excellent idea, Perdita. I could do with this as a resource. The older I get, the less able I am to take physical action (go to demos, long meetings etc). But Iuse my spending/ boycotting power to support good causes.

Tanith · 07/06/2021 10:29

You know that Ocado is nothing to do with John Lewis? You’d need to ask them separately what they’re doing about Stonewall Championship.

SpindleWhorl · 07/06/2021 10:38

Asda and the Co-op were the retailers who were highest placed in SW's woke chart in 2017, apparently.

twitter.com/OcadoGroup/status/1399636149350588417 though I have no idea whether they are Stonewall Champions.
Tanith · 07/06/2021 10:53

That’s from 1st June, though. “A week is a long time in politics!” Grin

I wonder if they’ll change their vans back now, or if “Jesus in a Cabbage” is truly a thing of the past?

ChristinaXYZ · 07/06/2021 11:31

I've just checked on Sex Matters' list and Ocado are there. sex-matters.org/stonewall-champions-list/

I'm cutting my shopping with them down to once every 4 to 6 weeks for tins, loo roll and cleaning stuff. I've started using small local shops for meat and bread and the market and a farm shop that delivers for veg etc. We have a milk man anyway.

teawamutu · 07/06/2021 11:40

Aldi and Lidl don't seem to be there.

SpindleWhorl · 07/06/2021 12:19

And Asda aren't on it - I wonder if they left between 2017 and 2021?

HermioneWeasley · 07/06/2021 12:25

Morrisons aren’t on it, which is good because they’re my local.

Asda might not be on it, but last year paid Diversity Role Models £100k to produce a kit for primary aged kids which included the PIE slogan “love has no age” and referred to a book which glamorised child sexual abuse. They also do pronoun badges and are completely woke so I don’t shop there (no hardship as their food is also shit)

Glenthebattleostrich · 07/06/2021 12:28

I use Morrisons, I emailed them to check. Aldi I think are ok and I use local businesses as much as I can.

I do know yes, Ocado are Stonewall champions though

No idea if whoever makes Always is on the list or not, but just saw a TV advert which mentions womenShock

GeorgiaMcGraw · 07/06/2021 17:07

Probably smaller, local businesses. I use Booths in the northwest of England. If they ever go woke I'll pelt cabbages at head office 😂

“Thanks for your email.

Equality is a founding principle of the John Lewis Partnership, which was formed almost 100 years ago. We regularly review our participation in schemes run by various external organisations to make sure they continue to align with the values of the John Lewis Partnership and support the aims of our five-year Partnership Plan.

Stonewall is no different. Our priority has always been and always will be to ensure all of our Partners and customers feel safe and secure working and shopping with us. We also have our own policies and procedures in place to ensure this.

Thanks again for writing to us. Take care, and have a pleasant evening.

I think I read somewhere that around 93% of household expenditure was controlled by women aged 40 to 60. Not sure if that is true, but it seems nonetheless that women have a lot of pocket power they are not using. I wonder if there is a good way to leverage it.

PerditaCambellBlack · 07/06/2021 18:30

That sounds believable

To quote Catherine Tate's Nan: wot a load of old shit.

What about all the women who don't feel safe in changing rooms where males are admitted? Or women of faith who simply can't use them?

EHRC guidance on no hierarchy of PCs really embedded here Hmm

StarintheMorning · 07/06/2021 19:09

There is something Pride related on the ASDA site, but you have to hunt to find it. Waitrose is really pushing it this year, even the app on my phone has changed colour. I think it took until they changed colours for Christmas last year for all of their branding to go back to green! Can’t see anything on Morrison’s or Tesco.

This is the Waitrose reply from the other thread ('Ofsted have left Stonewall):

Oh Tesco are definitely signed up

WarOnWoman · 07/06/2021 20:17

Any ideas of where to shop for teenage kids? Boys and girls. I used to shop at M&S but not any more. They have no interest in clothes and prefer joggers and/or super casual wear.

WarOnWoman · 07/06/2021 20:17

*shop for clothes for teenage kids!
