They very briefly gave some space to the Telegraph front page about Stonewall and the word mother.
Discussion was brief and careful but it feels like progress that it even got a mention.

It's great it's on the front page, that's a win!!

What did they say on the BBC?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/06/2021 07:01

They didn't say much but it was the fact that they even gave it a mention that surprised me. They pick which few stories to bring up for the guests to discuss and I don't think I've seen them pick anything GC before. It was a surprise.

I think the paper review is always what's on the front page and very rarely do they ,mention anything inside unless they've been informed that the story carries over (such as MP's expenses etc).

I believe the Times is doing a big investigation that might break cover very soon - eyes peeled wims

I used to like to tune in but found over recent years some use it as a political rant.

It's progress. On another thread on the BBC trans woman paralympian article, both sides of the debate were included, which is a sea change at the BBC. who was it at the BBC who said things needed to change? seems changes are creeping in...

Just had a re-think. There have been small pieces on the front pages before (not often) and never covered the GC ones. I think they have no choice, blinding sunlight is hard for even the BBC to ignore

It was one of the selected stories to mention in passing on the Today programme newspaper review about 15 minutes ago. That's Radio 4. Considering how many interesting stories there have been about Stonewall over the past week, the BBC has been noticeably shy about reporting on any of them.

IvyTwines2 · 04/06/2021 08:38

I've heard two male news/current affairs presenters on Radio 5 make jokes about 'not going there' when something soundalike 'trans' has come up during a morning phone in or the in-between stories drivetime chat. It very much comes across as a deliberate BBC policy to avoid it. I did hear a guest newspaper reviewer mention one of the Times (I think) stories a couple of weeks ago.

Was pleased to hear this discussed this morning. (I actually wondered who was on half term hols)

Thought it might be worth putting the link to the thread discussing the article here.

The article is a scorcher.

Thanks for the link. It's pretty damning but I'm sure the BBC would have swerved it even a few weeks ago. It's easy to 'run out of time' in that sort of segment. Progress indeed.
