I'd be finding Owen Beddis' team at NHS digital to remind them to make sure that any information they put up is well balanced and includes the known and expected risks to the infants for anything like induced lactation when a cocktail of hormones and hormone suppressors are being used.

As well as any other pregnancy issue that is discussed. That it is factual and frank about any risk factor.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/05/2021 14:42

Saw this in a Facebook group earlier, glad there is a thread about it here as there are surely many L and B women here who would like a say.

SunnydaleClassProtector99 · 27/05/2021 14:47

@Helleofabore are you talking about domperidone? I'm a bit worried because I used that to induce breast milk when I had low flow and was pumping . I thought I was doing the right thing for baby but now I'm worried. Do you have any studies you can direct me to?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/05/2021 14:48

Well, I may identify as something today...

Sunnydale, I am talking about males suppressing their testosterone with one chemical (which is apparently has various effectiveness at that suppression) combined with whatever other hormonal cocktail they are on for transition.

I am not talking about a female body with natural hormones (or at least with significantly less artificial hormones being introduced) at all. Particularly if you are simply supplementing existing processes.

I am very sorry that my post was unclear. I can see that it could be read that way. My sincere apologies.

That was what the comment on the reddit thread was referring to when they said 'including trans lesbians'. ie. males. For a male to lactate to feed an infant, requires significant interference with hormones etc. A transwoman doctor who was a specialist in the field made the decision NOT to do this for their child when their wife had their baby as they realised that so much was at risk due to the unknowns.

And of course, there is also the fact that a women's body after pregnancy regulates the contents of the milk. That also does not happen with male lactation as they simply do not have the body systems in place for that to happen.

There needs to be a focus on what is in the infant's interest vs the adult in these cases.

SunnydaleClassProtector99 · 27/05/2021 15:26

Yeah, I do get it's different but was just a bit worried there's been evidence that domperidone is harmful. I have seen that said here before but am a bit scared to research it in fear of what I find.
I've since realised I massively overdosed as well so am anxious about it.

Blue4YOU · 27/05/2021 15:29

Let’s get trans men having babies too. It’d take some of the pressure of non trans women ie women

Siblingquandary · 27/05/2021 15:31

I'm not LGBT+ so can't partake in the survey... but the idea of encouraging men to breastfeed is very concerning to me.

Are they actually considering this?
Why are they so hell bent on experimenting on children?

Yes, on this occasion 'won't anyone think of the children?' !!

Helleofabore · 27/05/2021 15:49

I understand Sunnydale. It must cause quite a few anxious moments.

But, I am sure that the doctors must pick up on any issues in those instances and would not have prescribed it otherwise surely. Well, that is my hope for you anyway.

Helleofabore · 27/05/2021 15:50

Siblingquandary

Well, it was the first comment that came up when I visited that thread. I would say it is definitely on some people's wish list.

Siblingquandary · 27/05/2021 16:02

@Helleofabore

That's just crazy. Fucking crazy.

I'm having a stop the world I want to get off moment..

I've no problem with people presenting and living as they wish and lobbying for their own safe spaces but I draw the line at experimenting on children.

Puddycatfan · 27/05/2021 16:22

This is something that the press should really pick up on.

Experimentation on children, with unknown consequences, just so a tiny minority of males can feel validated...actually, there seems to be a theme emerging here...

Helleofabore · 27/05/2021 16:27

Well Sibling there are some interesting rabbit holes that you could go down and we have had a few posters here who have introduced us to the studies being done as it fits with their own beliefs. But you do have to really want to go down those rabbit holes to do so iykwim.

I've gone a short way down some rabbit holes as my brother describes himself as non binary femme or something and I think he's in to queer theory. I wanted to 'educate myself' so that I could understand him better but ended up going in the opposite direction..
Artichokeleaves · 27/05/2021 16:40

To include some male born people you exclude some female people from female services, spaces and provisions.

I hope their 'inclusion' actually covers all nine protected characteristics with equal care, attention and enthusiasm.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 27/05/2021 17:09

How to get information on surrogacy?

(I have a bad feeling about this survey)

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/05/2021 17:20

It really is appease to the predominantly rich, white boys at every turn. Men get medical better treatment as is. Ffs.

NecessaryScene1 · 27/05/2021 19:45

Looking at it from the baby's point of view (why would you do anything else?), one does wonder why you would be looking at male humans as an alternative to the correct feeding source - female humans.

Wouldn't other female mammals make more sense, and arguably be more natural? Is there reason to believe whatever a male human produces will be more nutritious than that produced by the female of other species?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/05/2021 00:45

Cows?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/05/2021 00:47

As in the basis for formula..

OhHolyJesus · 28/05/2021 07:33

@SunnydaleClassProtector99

I'm wondering if you are looking for something on the Newman Goldfarb technique? Domperidone doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier is my understanding but in the doses used in men they are higher and no long term research has been done in that respect.
