Pornhub tycoon tracked down

The Sunday Times report on the man behind Pornhub who has been tracked to London by News outlet Tortoise. There have been many discussions about the content of Pornhub here, what's interesting in this article are the comments from his wife - who seems to be suggesting more needs to be done to protect children, women and girls...

"Think of the children, pleads wife of Pornhub tycoon Bernd Bergmair"

"Pornhub has been mired in controversy for the past two years. An investigation by The Sunday Times in 2019 highlighted illegal content on the site. That led to Unilever and Heinz, which had paid for ads on Pornhub, to cut their ties. Unilever said the “type of content” highlighted, including secretly filmed “creepshots” of British schoolgirls and clips of men performing sex acts in front of teenagers on buses, was “deeply troubling”."

Thanks for the share. Slightly OT but Tortoise are doing some interesting stuff.

Why on earth was Heinz advertising on pornhub?

The only Heinz product I buy is baked beans, time to switch brands.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 23/05/2021 13:23

Yes, I hadn't realised they had been following him. It's one of the issues with paywall journalism - although I appreciate they need to make money - so many platforms to get across. They seem to be doing quality stuff tho so may consider a subscription.

Because of the massive audience. These firms that only withdrew because of reputational issues, rather than ethical ones couldn't care less about the impact of porn.

The government should not have postponed or backed down the idea of a 'porn passport' or having to register to access adult content.

NiceGerbil · 23/05/2021 20:13

I had no idea that brands like that advertised there wtf.

Even without the ethical thing. Why would they want to have their beans associated with shagging? Bizarre. Must be a very niche combo Grin

aliasundercover · 23/05/2021 20:27

I don’t think Heinz would choose to advertise there. It’s more likely that an algorithm found an available space that fit the profile Heinz had specified (maybe single men?).

NiceGerbil · 23/05/2021 21:07

Paid ads. Bizarre.

Heinz have never ever advertised on pornhub. All of the adverts are for camming services etc not shopping.

NiceGerbil · 23/05/2021 22:05

What about the times investigation?

And you think it's wrong about Unilever as well?

How regularly and for how many years have you been on pornhub? Must be quite a bit to make a conclusive statement that it was never happening.

Dozer · 23/05/2021 22:08

The article said Unilever advertised on there!

Agree, the comments by the reported owner’s wife - wanting more regulation etc - seemed dissonant with being married to someone owning/leading an organisation with those kind of practices.

NiceGerbil · 23/05/2021 22:08

Ah maybe if you check Google you will get some more info.

Why do people post absolute statements without a quick Google?

'Kraft Heinz, the owner of Capri-Sun and HP Sauce, took over the porn site’s homepage in January for a one-day #FoodPorn campaign to promote Devour, a frozen food brand.'

'A Sunday Times investigation revealed that earlier this year Unilever, which is behind brands such as Dove, Marmite and Hellman’s mayonnaise, ran a campaign on the site for male grooming company Dollar Shave Club.
One ad read: “If you use our bathroom products you won’t have to visit this site as much.”

The creative director of Dollar Shave Club, Matt Knapp, said the decision had been taken because Pornhub “had guys’ backs.”'
