Pride? A slap in the face for those who marched for the rights of same sex oriented people.

This is a very good article about how the Pride movement has been colonised and corrupted. To the point where it now actively excludes the people who originally started it. Those people who, back in the mists of time, (when having your face on the news so your employers could see you taking part in a pride march was more likely to get you fired, ostracised and physically attacked than praised and coddled) dared gather and march publicly, in an attempt to show the world that we were just ordinary decent people, asking that our same sex relationships be given the same legal rights and protections as those of heterosexual couples.

"These days Pride marches appear to be more about having a massive piss up with some of the most cringeworthy and shame inducing people I have ever seen. They seem to be more attended by straight people bringing their children to view what has become a modern day freak show of people in full gimp gear, pup fetishists, furries, and ‘queers’ whose only oppression seems to be their neon green hair and pierced tongues, and that they’re going to have to wait until they are 25 before they can access the trust fund. "

They have no idea of the true courage it took just to hold your head high and walk down the street past the tv news cameras. Most of the cowardly little weasels don't even have the courage to question the opinions of their peers!

My subscription to lesbianandgaynews has turned out to be very good value for money, but you don't need to pay for a subscription to read the articles. It's wonderful to have an unbiased news outlet that covers things from a homosexual perspective.

Oh dear, I'm really not having much luck with this. Either that or I'm being very cunning and making you search the entire site for the article about pride...
Hope third time is the charm and this link goes directly to the article.

It is a slap in the face Stealth, when are people going to wake up and see and listen?

MissingLesbianSpaces · 17/05/2021 21:14

I started marching in the early 80s and was so afraid of being fired from my job

HermioneWeasley · 17/05/2021 21:17

100% agree

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/05/2021 21:44

Now you are more likely to get flack of you don’t don a boa and March...

SmokedDuck · 17/05/2021 21:50

@toffeebutterpopcorn

Now you are more likely to get flack of you don’t don a boa and March...
I've heard of workplaces looking pretty askance at employees who don't want to.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/05/2021 21:56

You should have see the wee faces at my work when I refused to rainbow-wash the website for Pride.

I suggested that they’d need to submit (to me) a business proposal, justifying my time and outlining the £££ benefits to the business - and of course we’d need to also do IWD etc too... Bless then, they couldn’t think of a business benefit of doing it (beyond ‘just because’). I suggested the did a sponsored run and I’d put that in the news section for some PR.

Never been to a Pride myself, being straight I've never felt the need to.
However, not quite sure what's wrong with someone who is going along as well?
Completely understand its origins and why it still exists, but surely people who are allies supporting is a good thing?
Why automatically assume they're going because they think it's a freak show (the original post's words, not mine)

Thelnebriati · 18/05/2021 11:02

You've never been to Pride so you won't understand the quote in the OP that you took out of context.
Pride is supposed to be a celebration and coming together for gay people, not an opportunity to show how broad minded you are by taking your kids to see the show. Thats just some weird kind of tourism.
