I'm sure there was a thread collecting instances of companies and NHS bodies erasing the word woman. I can't find it so started a new thread. Another NHS hospital talking about pregnant people. Sigh.
Getting quite the ration on twitter though.

My NCT course started two weeks ago and she kept referring to the labouring person. Two of us said are there any labouring people in our group who are not women and she said no. So she then switched to calling us women and mums. It was all so odd and uncomfortable.

Well done Flittingaboutagain
I suspect she was using language she had been instructed to use and was quite relieved to get it out in the open and revert to accepted language. Hopefully the rest of the classes will be helpful.

225 comments, no likes so at the moment the ratio is infinite.

If I were to have another baby, I would love for them to refer to me as a pregnant person because I would absolutely love to kick up a storm on that.

LostToucan · 15/05/2021 12:38

Just checked my local NHS webpages and they seem to have done the sensible thing - using “woman” and “mother” except in the leaflet specifically produced transgender and non binary parents.

Yes same, even a few months ago it wouldn't have been the case, fewer replies and they would be scattered with well done for being inclusive etc.

Just checked mine (where I'll give birth later this year) and it refers to being women-centred in the headline. Smile I hope that remains, especially given our local SNP MSP.

I suggest for anyone who is served by that Trust to write a formal complaint to the Trust chief exec and the PALS office - patient advisory and liaison service.

Interestingly - when I have clicked on many of these, most (not all) of the staff talk about women - so clearly the intern running the Twitter feed needs re-educating.

I got blocked from my trust’s maternity voices Facebook page after I objected to their use of pregnant people.

ShamedBySiri · 15/05/2021 17:42

Wow. Does the trust administer or endorse the Facebook page AngeloMysterioso ? That definitely merits a complaint.

If I was a pregnant non-woman, I wouldn’t want to be in a any groups with pregnant women, although I’m guessing the numbers wouldn’t be large enough to warrant their own groups
