Good to see them getting it right for once.

Thread

This week, a 28-year-old man was convicted of offences after he caused so much distress to his partner that she fell through a first-floor window trying to escape him.

Read that again.

This woman willingly jumped out of a window rather than having to face this guy.

It was February 2019, & the pair were on their way to a local bar.

But the man took issue with what the woman was wearing, making her feel so uncomfortable that the evening was cut short.

It was when they returned home that he truly lost his temper. And wouldn't let her leave. t.co/A6J7noGsti

Well done northants police!

ArabellaScott · 14/05/2021 10:33

Well, I'm glad they dealt with an abusive male.

Aside from that, though, I'm not a fan of the police

  1. Telling stories like this - they're there to enforce the law, not shape our morals and
  2. Posting memes.

I'm not sure about police having Twitter profiles at all, really. Seems quite unprofessional, and posting about people describing their 'crimes' before they have actually been tried seems bizarre to say the least.

Helleofabore · 14/05/2021 10:41

I agree Arabella

Posting of memes is not really useful to me. Just sticking to the facts and truth would be good.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/05/2021 10:46

The "storytelling" aspect is odd, and the meme use is bizarre. The man has been convicted though, and is awaiting sentencing.

I think the police have some responsibility to publish information about offenders and crimes, e.g. to make it clear what domestic abuse can be like as well as who the perpetrators are/what they are like. This is very odd way of going about it.

I hope justice will be served when the case goes to court and I'm glad it was pursued and the police treated the crime seriously but in all honesty I just feel sad that we are celebrating one woman being taken seriously. Our reaction to this case exposes how low are expectations are and how appalling the situation is for the majority women who suffer at the hands of violent men.

Of course it's good news but it's all relative.

ArabellaScott · 14/05/2021 11:47

The man has been convicted

That's good. I have seen quite a lot of posts of police posting about incidents that have happened a day or two previously - clearly haven't been to court yet.

Yes information is good to share. But I am VERY uneasy with the police setting themselves up as vigilante type baddie hunters.
