Refreshing to see the media reaction to this case.

This needs to be taken seriously, zero tolerance approach to sexually motivated behaviour. This can lead to an escalation in offences as in the case of the suspect arrested for the murder of Sarah Everard.

“WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

If we are going by stonewalls trans umbrella then he is trans.
It includes cross dressing and gender non confirming“

I did not realise that. So in that case would Stonewall say Grayson Perry is trans?

(He surely is not at all as far as I understood it.)

toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/05/2021 19:48

Grayson Perry says Grayson Perry isn’t trans...

NiceGerbil · 13/05/2021 19:52

It's self ID I think for the media so I'd say this person doesn't identity as trans.

There's nothing to suggest this person is trans? I thought as mostly GC feminists, we support people being able to wear gender non-conforming clothes, etc. without it meaning anything about their sex or gender identity?

I know people should be able to wear what ever they want - within reason - but i would uneasy if i met a man wearing this outfit.

SuperSleepyBaby · 13/05/2021 20:49

*be uneasy

While the drag character is a 'she', Phil will be a 'he' out of drag, that was always just the parlance.

There's been an increase in drag performers using their real names, which is interesting - possibly less a matter of adopting a persona and more of artistic expression and changing times. Having a trans man on the last season of Drag Race had everyone trying themselves in knots pronoun-wise, which kind of highlighted how silly it all is.

I know there's no love lost for drag on this board but there you go.

Ah stonecat, I only had a quick glance and thought he was talking while in drag - went back and realised it was a voiceover on the footage, so yes it was Phil as a he.

Obviously you've got your clear distinctions between Paul O'Grady and Lilly Savage, Barrie Humphreys and Dane Edna. But Danny La Rue was always Danny La Rue as far as I recall. Drag's a broad church and there is are trans performers but you are right about the umbrella problem and where you draw the line.

I suspect that the baguette brandisher would only have had to say the word to have been called a woman in court and press. If he gets locked up, who among us would be surprised if he suddenly becomes a "she?"

Yes Stonecat, and plenty of people will call RuPaul a transphobic dinosaur til the end of his days for that eminently sensible opinion.

The whole issue of posthumously trans-ing people is a growing problem that does insult the people whose lives are being fictionalised and undermined.

My thoughts exactly.
