Absolutely heartbreaking story about Rob Burrow's motor neurone disease. The love he and his wife have is truly beautiful to read about.

One part that stood out to me is this:
We have discussed the possible links between MND and the 30 concussions Burrow suffered during his career and relived the adversity he overcame as a scrum-half who, standing 5ft 4in and weighing under 10 stone, had to outwit and tackle opponents sometimes double his weight and over a foot taller than him.

The idea that women's sports could or should simply accommodate the physical damage from male bodies is abhorrent.

38 Sad

It’s so sad. My Grandad played RL at international level back in the 50s. Him and so many of his generation of RL players died of dementia. In their playing days, there were so many hits to the head, it wasn’t against the rules like it is now. He would tell stories of how huge prop forwards targeted him at the scrum as he was small and fast like Rob Burrow.
There had to be a link, just like they’re starting to see a similar link in RU and football. If this is the result of injuries in the men’s game, how is that going to play out in the women’s game?

Absolutely heartbreaking.

So sad. I wish him and his wife the longest and best possible time together. And I do hope the implications for women playing against men are brought to the attention of those who can take action.

So sad Sad it's such a cruel disease. My dad died of MND last year and Rob has been incredible at raising awareness of it and the dangers of repeated sports injuries.
