Caroline Flint for next Labour leader

In the aftermath of Hartlepool I saw a couple of people suggesting Caroline Flint for next Labour leader and it just makes so much sense.

She used to represent a Brexit seat but, unlike, say, a lot of Graun CIF commenters who should know better, she doesn't actively despise her erstwhile constituents and continued to speak up for them until losing her seat.

It'd also mean Labour finally having a female leader, one who has a better chance of connecting with Red Wall voters than either Corbyn or Starmer and one who isn't afraid of a scrap and would savage Boris at PMQs.

Labour would have to have someone in one of their few remaining safe seats accept an elevation to the Lords for her to enter Parliament but what's not to like?

(Won't happen though - metropolitan members and MPs won't countenance any compromise with half of their own party, never mind the electorate, but one can dream...).

No thanks. I'd rather Kier Starmer is given a proper chance. I think he's intelligent and has integrity and is everything I want in a political leader. We can't keep ditching leaders (although I'm very happy Corbyin was ditched!).

I know someone who used to work in her office. I was constantly mopping them up as she was notoriously a massive bully to her staff. I lost respect for her over that

The way she attacked Emily Thornberry with hearsay was utterly dishonourable.
She’s not fit to be an MP let alone party leader.

'I think he's intelligent and has integrity and is everything I want in a political leader'

I agree with you - he seems like a very bright, very decent person. I don't think he's got a bloody clue what he's doing though, and that's just not good enough

I used to think that. And then I saw his cowardice and refusal to stand up for a woman MP like Rosie Duffield against the most awful misogyny and realised he's completely unfit to be a leader. If you daren't stand up to people abusing your MPs for having the courage to stand up respectfully for women's rights, you've not got the integrity or confidence to stand up to nuclear powers, dangerous terrorists or those seeking to harm others. He's a waste of space.

Fuck no

SwedishEdith · 08/05/2021 12:51

Good, god, no. And she lost her seat despite trying to "understand" the racist element behind the Brexit vote.

They could do worse. And probably will.
