In the aftermath of Hartlepool I saw a couple of people suggesting Caroline Flint for next Labour leader and it just makes so much sense.
She used to represent a Brexit seat but, unlike, say, a lot of Graun CIF commenters who should know better, she doesn't actively despise her erstwhile constituents and continued to speak up for them until losing her seat.
It'd also mean Labour finally having a female leader, one who has a better chance of connecting with Red Wall voters than either Corbyn or Starmer and one who isn't afraid of a scrap and would savage Boris at PMQs.
Labour would have to have someone in one of their few remaining safe seats accept an elevation to the Lords for her to enter Parliament but what's not to like?
(Won't happen though - metropolitan members and MPs won't countenance any compromise with half of their own party, never mind the electorate, but one can dream...).
