Males using female products

I follow Clinique on Instagram as I use their products. They have posted quite a lot recently of men using the "female" products, not the ones advertised to men. It really annoys me for a few reasons:
Can we not have our own products any more?
Are the men products actually then the same as the women's ones anyway, so it's al just a clever marketing ploy and it's all the same stuff.

Are they as good as Venus?

Tibtom · 03/05/2021 21:13

there should not be boy's toys etc

StrangeLookingParasite · 03/05/2021 21:13

Very much could not care less about this. In fact I think it's a good thing.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 03/05/2021 21:15

Prisons? Yes, women need their own.
Sports? Yes, women need their own.
Refuges? Yes, women need their own.

Clinique beauty products? Erm, not so much.

Like a PP said, 'Can we not have our own products any more?' really is not a hill I would choose to die on!

Really couldnt care less, actually pretty pleased me and dp use the same shower gel, shampoo and conditioner saves a lot of plastic in the bathroom.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 03/05/2021 21:18

Where'd you get the wooden handle and the blades that fit please?

@LadyBuffOfBuffdonia

Are men's razors actually any good? I've never got one unless you count the 19p cheap orange ones.

I'm in the market for a reusable, eco friendly one I can use without shaving foam.

My preferred razor is the classic Bic single blade. Periodically I’ll go through a period of using an electric shaver, but won’t get a smooth shave.

If I’m stubbled up then I’ll use a two or three of the cheaper own brand razors to shift it.

All the high tech multi bladed razors are a waste of money for me - I blunt the blades and if I’ve gone stubbled they just make a mess - the ‘best a man can get’ shredded my face.

For a reusable razor, with minimal disposables then I’d personally think the best is the old fashioned screw together ‘safety razor’ with good quality blades.
I did have my dads old army issue razor once upon a time
(When I last bought these types of blades you could slide the used blades into the bottom of the dispenser so they aren’t sat in the bin waiting to cut someone)

Doyoumind · 03/05/2021 21:25

I don't get why it matters. They only produce stuff for men because many men won't buy anything aimed at women. Let men use women's skincare, makeup, whatever. As long as they know it doesn't mean they're a woman it makes no difference.

CorianderBee · 03/05/2021 21:32

It's a good thing if men want to use 'female' branded choices. It means there's less toxic masculinity in their brains stopping them.

And our skincare is way better. DP uses skincare which I usually guide him on which is either unisex or female-oriented.

TuvoknotSpock · 03/05/2021 21:32

I've seen the ads you refer to and am fine with them. Eyeshadow applies successfully to eyelids of both sexes, if we normalised men being "allowed" to look fabulous with a smoky eye that would be better for Males and females imo.

themalamander · 03/05/2021 21:35

You realise that most feminists want to stop the gendered product nonsense. And you're fighting because you want us to have our own special, little girlie section? Really?

Cwenthryth · 03/05/2021 21:40

OP please don’t just run away though, you probably feel piled on given that no one agrees with you. Maybe we could move the conversation on a bit. Why did you feel this was a feminist issue in the first place?

Thanks PPs for the plastic-free safety razor recommendations! How do you dispose of the used razor blades safely though (if you don’t have a medical sharps container to hand?)

Deliriumoftheendless · 03/05/2021 21:48

I’d never thought of a traditional razor - I’m sold!

ForThePurposeOfTheTape · 03/05/2021 21:54

I don't mind companies using men in their makeup advertising or whatever. The rise of male makeup influencers was always going to lead to companies trying to make money from new markets.

Unless it's a female specific product like tampons, I don't see why a shampoo, lipstick or moisturiser would be female. The only possible exception to this might be the scent but non-scented cosmetics are often more popular since it's a potential allergic reaction ingredient.

Cwenthryth · 03/05/2021 21:57

Just answered my own question on disposing of safety razor blades - you can collect them in a tin and recycle them

www.theenglishshavingcompany.com/blog/dispose-recycle-razor-blades/

Also sold!

Deliriumoftheendless · 03/05/2021 22:01

Very useful link Cwenthryth!
