What is the relevance of Maya’s case to Woman’s Hour I wonder?!!

Magnificent Valor, Maya 🌹🌺💪

I think we should definitely write to the BBC and get a petition started to woman’s hour.

Roonerspismed · 30/04/2021 22:19

I really admire this woman.

The BBC has just lost its way. I no lon hee e listen. Radio four used to be on 24/7. I actually feel slightly bereaved about its loss

GreyhoundG1rl · 30/04/2021 22:21

The BBC should be reeling with embarrassment at this, but they've neither sufficient insight nor shame.

MForstater · 30/04/2021 22:27

To be fair to them (really!) It was only Radio 3 exclusive they wanted. But even so it is just pathetic of them not to cover the story now.

BettyFilous · 30/04/2021 22:30

Hi Maya. 👋 Thanks for everything that you are doing. Your legal team were fantastic earlier this week and you are a shero.

Scepticaltank · 30/04/2021 22:35

@Tibtom

It is not just that WH has become meaningless - it is worse than that by far. An exclusive interview would have meant she couldn't appear on the news (be it BBC, ITV or Sky) or in the Times or other newspaper. And the next day they could edit her down to minute with ten minutes of Stonewall or Mermaids saying how terrible she is. It is an attempt to silence her.

Funny how they suddenly think exclusivity is a good idea.

Good point1

Such a classy answer from Maya.

The story is the BBC not covering the story.
TheSuezCanalTugBoat · 01/05/2021 01:12

You're too good for them Maya Thanks

Datun · 01/05/2021 02:01

Why aren't they all over this from the beginning? They should be supporting Maya from the outset. Representing women and their rights. Instead of waiting to see which way the wind blows so they can nail their colours to the most woke mast.

Women are going to prevail. The ranks are swelling daily. And everyone will remember where these people stood.

BattyOrange · 01/05/2021 02:31

Couldn't agree more Datun.

And Maya, you're a complete Star On behalf of my daughter and granddaughters - thank you so much Flowers

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/05/2021 09:43

Datun I wish I had your confidence about prevailing.

I listened to Any Questions last night - which was the same as most of the hustings I've listened to. Women saying "no problem here", women in positions of influence if not power, women who are happy to give my rights (that I want) away because some bloke might feel sad if a woman says "no" to him.

I'm a bit down in the dumps about it. Even the fact that MF has to go to an appeal court, never mind a court...I mean, it's LUDICROUS.

Anyway, I feel a bit better for having a whine.

Back to emailing elected representatives...

Yes, I know it feels like that. But that's because this is the beginning of people talking about it.

A few years ago it wasn't even being discussed. There were no on air public challenges, no questions and no court cases.

The wider public is only just beginning the journey. As soon as you get someone else in the studio, or commenting on the radio who knows even slightly what they're talking about, the issues become very clear.

McPancreas · 01/05/2021 10:05

Having ignored her appeal when it was being heard, on what planet do they think they are entitled to an interview? let alone an exclusive one!

highame · 01/05/2021 12:44

I assume they are trying to quash debate and prevent outrage

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/05/2021 12:59

Ah, that is an excellent point and I'm very glad of your wisdom.

It is easy to forget that most people don't know anything about these issues at all and that most people are just wanting to be sympathetic to the trans community. As I do - I just don't understand why being sympathetic means that I have to lose my rights.

I remember clearly when the penny dropped for me and I am many years, and many hours of googling, and many emails to assorted bodies later.

You are right, having a smart, polite woman defend herself in an appeal court for believing that humans have only 2 sexes is a lot of sunlight.

Chin is back up.

Telegraph today:
If biological sex is a myth, so is evolution
In Material Girls, philosopher Kathleen Stock braves accusations of hate to publish a fearless, rigorous study of gender identity
www.telegraph.co.uk/books/what-to-read/biological-sex-myth-evolution/

University staff given list of banned 'microinsults' they cannot say to trans people
Academics say an obsession with gender identity on campus risks 'morally blackmailing' students and relegating 'less woke' inequalities
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/05/01/university-staff-given-list-banned-microinsults-cannot-say-trans/amp/

There will be a crossover with BBC Radio 4 listeners who may well become more frustrated/bemused by BBC failure to report.

😁 I agree, It is easy to forget that most people don't know the details. Which is why it's noticeable when, recently, so many women have come here having just realised the issue. Many of whom had been previously supportive of gender ideology.
Mrshyat · 01/05/2021 13:30

Why would Women's hour need an 'exclusive'? It seems odd to me. It's hardly like Maya has a book coming out and it means she gets on the cover of Sunday Times Magazine. This is a worthy news issue. I have serious concerns if the BBC are limiting the coverage of national issues.

R0wantrees · 01/05/2021 14:29

I've just had a message from a Telegraph reading relative (he's retired) saying that, based on the review of Kathleen Stock's, 'Material Girls', it sounds an interesting and significant book and he's going to order it.

I have seen it suggested that if Maya signed an exclusivity agreement, and the BBC never showed the interview then Maya would never be able to speak of it....
GNCQ · 01/05/2021 17:02

Wouldn't put it past the BBC to basically not air the interview at all, or edit it into oblivion so the message turns into woo woo.
Good response Maya!
