Who to vote for in England?

I feel like my postal ballot is giving me side-eye for not filling it in, but I feel paralysed by indecision .

Alex Sobel (Labour MP in Leeds) has overtly stated he's not interested in my vote "because TWAW, you bigot."

The Greens and Lib Dems are the same wrt policy capture.

The Tories are a bit better, although it's patchy. But given the devastation austerity has caused to millions as they siphon off public services and the NHS to their corrupt mates, I can't vote for them.

There are some crank parties - Yorkshire Party (WTF?), England First (doubly WTF?) and something called Reform UK that's very unclear what needs reforming and why.

I know Women in Scotland have put together a voting resource. Does anyone know of one for the various English elections from a feminist perspective?

SDP, if there is a canditate.

StillFemale · 26/04/2021 18:07

I’ve been angsting about this, especially as the Labour PCC candidate is female and a good one who came very close to winning last time but decided I’m writing ‘Labour Losing Women’ & ‘Woman Is a Biological Reality Not a Feeling’ on mine

midgedude · 26/04/2021 18:14

Ask your female candidate what she personally thinks. My candidate was not singing the party line o that issue last time round

JosephineBaker · 26/04/2021 20:26

I can't find much out about the Yorkshire Party but they do have a policy to abolish the Holbeck Managed Zone, which would be a bloody start.

Please wait.

Volunteers are onto this and working away in each constituency to find the views of all candidates standing.

Findings will be out before the election.

GCITC · 26/04/2021 20:36

This is for the PCC/Mayoral candidates, not local council elections.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 26/04/2021 20:48

Yorkshire Party might be quite a good bet. Can’t see any obvious policy against women’s rights and otherwise seems (from my cursory reading) to have a range of centrist policies (don’t agree with all those I just read but seem non-whacky). Yorkshire devolution might not be a core issue for you, but unlikely to be on the agenda...

This is for the County Council elections?

If so, ignore that utter fool Alex Sobel. Nearly every party has one like him. Pity his constituents!

You're voting on how your local authority will administer and run your county.
Are you happy with the way your local authority is run? Are they capable or inept? Honest or corrupt? Careful or wasteful? Are they doing their jobs properly?

Mine isn't. It has badly let down children's services, there is a strong suspicion of corruption in their housing and planning. The roads are unkempt and badly in need of repair.
I want a council that will address these and other things so I'll vote to replace our current councillor.
He's a Conservative, like most of the Council. It hasn't stopped them promoting Mermaids or a local group that encourages children to travel and meet them for support without tell their parents Hmm

Not helpful for you OP (sorry) but in case anyone in London or Lothian wants a recommendation, there's the Animal Welfare Party. They're fielding candidates for the London mayor and assembly, and in the Lothian region for the Scottish Parliament election. They're only a tiny party for so unable to stand anywhere else for now.

Olderbadger1 · 27/04/2021 01:19

Same problem in Wales. Lots of women (particularly those on the left) intending to spoil their ballot papers. We don't have any representation. Unbelievable.

Alex Sobel is in my adjacent constituency.

As I am in Leeds - 2nd most woke TWAW city after Brighton - I am extremely NOT impressed by how my council treats women. Ditto its police force.

We’re national embarrassments, between Holbeck and Mermaids and WY police misogyny.

Someone upthread said SDP are a good one to vote for. Coincidentally I just came on to ask about them, as I've just had a flyer through the door. I know nothing about them but was about to start the process of asking what this particular candidate thinks.

Generally are they a party that knows what a woman is or have they been captured?

ImaginaryCat · 27/04/2021 11:48

sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

Ignore my question, I just read this, and I am fucking in! Hell yes, this is the party I need.

How many crosses can I mark on that box?

slug · 27/04/2021 11:50

The SDP's policy is pretty good overall sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

MildredPuppy · 27/04/2021 11:50

I think this is one of those things where you need to look at the impact of a parties policies as a whole on women at a local level. I understand totally the angst about losing the definition of woman and the consequences. But, if this is for county council elections then really how are the varies parties structuring their care services is important. - so care for the elderly, adults with disablities, learning disabilities, children with SEN. These are going to be big hitters for women as they overwhlemingly provide care and live in poverty as a result. These servuces are earmarked for cut due to funding.
If its the police thing then yes focusing on do they understand domestic violence, cuckooing and what a woman is, are key.
