@Definitelyrandom

I've just read a 12 page guide to the menopause published by Aviva (the insurance company). It doesn't mention woman, women or female once - it's all "you" and "people".
Are you going to complain to them ? It’s always worth dropping an email as I’m sure you won’t be the only one to be appalled, it’s ridiculous.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/04/2021 15:26

Aviva have a addled to cookie. Remember their social media nonsense last year?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/04/2021 15:26

A addled? Snaffled!

Definitelyrandom · 23/04/2021 15:30

It's come to me via work, which has recently been focusing, let's say, on inclusion rather than equality (and there has been a bit of pro-nounery in emails, which few have taken up........). But I might have a look and email direct.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2021 15:42

Why are these companies pretending to give a fuck about women when they clearly don't?

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/04/2021 15:47

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

Naomi 'nanopatticles' Wolf is firmly in the TWAW camp, by the way. Grin
Ooh, thank you, that had passed me by, googled it and had a laugh.

Naomi really is the gift that keeps giving.

Igmum · 23/04/2021 15:48

Wtf? When you think of the effort that has put in over the years to make health messages clear and accessible and now this. Who cares about women's health? Certainly not the woke idiot who wrote this press release

Sophoclesthefox · 23/04/2021 15:48

This would be the same Aviva that told me that no menopause related conditions (of which there are DOZENS) are covered under their health insurance because “it’s not a medical condition”.

Fuck. Off.

Polly99 · 23/04/2021 22:15

Oh that came up on my Twitter just now. Made me wonder if the vaccine is safe for women who do not "experience menstruation" (if they have amenorrhoea) but are not post-menopausal. I guess not.
Otherwise they'd have said something sensible like "women (however they identify)" surely, in order to include all biological women.

NiceGerbil · 23/04/2021 22:19

Apart from the obvious issues, this type of language is totally biologically illiterate and pays no attention to how women and girls experience things.

People who experience menstruation.

Right now? Recently?
How do I know whether I'm included if I'm pregnant?! BF? what if I do a lot of sport and I haven't had one for ages?
What if I'm perimenopausal? Will I have another one? Who knows?

And the word menstruator is in itself not commonly used. It's periods. Experience? What a peculiar choice of word. It's not an experience. Most women and girls in English would say people who have periods. So why experience menstruation? Even if the people with bit was ok (it's not) why not use the language that is commonly used?

I mean it's all just bollocks.

CardinalLolzy · 23/04/2021 23:49

I don't know if I am "experiencing menstruation" or not - do they mean ever in your whole life, or right now, or a certain frequency? If they mean right now I'd have to come off medication and probably wait a while to see if I was being referred to in this piece or not.

Also, just as much as this weird language, they need to link to the evidence showing what they are supposedly reporting here. How do they know this - presumably some studies were carried out? Link to them!

Nonmaquillee · 23/04/2021 23:52

Jesus Christ.

Charley50 · 23/04/2021 23:53

I think it's time for me to buy a couple of women = adult human female t-shirt, and start wearing them in rotation.

It's ridiculous to me that woman, woman ffs, has become a taboo word.

feckwit · 23/04/2021 23:54

Seems fine to me.

NeedToKnow101 · 23/04/2021 23:59

This is a man's world
This is a man's world
But it means nothing, nothing
Without an adult human menstruator / post menstruator, or a child human pre-menstruator/ menstruator.

Just rolls off the tongue, innit.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 24/04/2021 00:02

On the mini pill here. No periods. Is the vaccine dangerous for me? Very worried indeed!

Greencoatblue · 24/04/2021 00:27

Christ on a bike, husband in a state of turmoil, he's never menstruated but wonders if he should have. I went into premature menopause because of cancer treatment, so not sure what category I fall in to....... I have birthed several children, endured years of monthly shedding........but still......do I qualify........shit, I've had a vaccine, am I doomed?

NiceGerbil · 24/04/2021 00:35

The menstruators/ ovulators stuff is so utterly ignorant of female biology.

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 24/04/2021 00:57

So I have the mirena coil fitted and for me that means no periods, but I'm also a few years away from the menopause. What does this mean for me? Genuinely. Why can't they explain it as 'women between the ages of x & y" so we all know where we stand. This is starting to get ridiculous. It's treating women with utter contempt not to explain their lives back to them clearly, in way which allows them to fully understand what's going on.

NiceGerbil · 24/04/2021 01:34

It totally ignores the biology. How periods work in real life.

That doesn't matter though obv.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/04/2021 09:41

Women with anorexia or other physical issues that stop periods. What about them?

WoolOfBat · 24/04/2021 11:52

I wish all women would email or tweet all these excellent questions. I don’t think it is clear at all.

I looks like they just are trying to avoid saying the word “woman” but what if they aren’t? It seems (maybe I have this wrong) to be primarily women who are badly affected by the AZ jab, but what about if it only is (at the time of the jab?) menstruating women? Or post menopausal women?

I think we all should try to get as much clarity from these people as possible. I am not saying this to try to be difficult. Women’s health is so under researched. Vaccines used to not be tested on women due to hormonal fluctuations messing up the results (I believe). Any research done, especially on women, should be highlighted, including what stage of the cycle the participants were on (if menstruating) and if not having menstrual cycles, the reason for that (medical, age, overtraining, etc) should be listed.

If we ever are to get a better understanding of how medical issues (like heart attacks) and vaccines work on the female body (different and fluctuating hormones) this needs to be examined.

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 24/04/2021 11:56

What about me? No periods here, I don't experience menstruation due to being a PREGNANT WOMAN.

And what about other women who aren't menstruating due to medical issues?
