Gender Neutral Toilets In All Schools in Ireland

This article from The Irish Times (it is actually on the front page of the newspaper and the paper). should awaken people to what is happening before our eyes.

Great to see a quote from Laoise - although it is prefaced by this sentence "However, some campaigners who are opposed to gender recognition legislation say the move will leave girls feeling unsafe."

But you will be delighted to know that the principal of a school which has implemented this idea thinks it is "reflective of how society is nowadays" and how he is delighted with it and it is so inclusive.

Honestly, these people went through third level education and critical thought has passed them by Confused.

"reflective of how society is nowadays"

Well that's true. It reflects how institutions feel unable to say "no" to men wanting to get into women's spaces.

I think there's a discussion about this on Joe Duffy now. I ran into the shop on the school run and heard something. Will try the playback later.

This is horrifying. And of course we know very few girls will bother reporting all the harassing and other incidents that will happen to them in mixed toilets so the schools will think it’s going swimmingly.

It really angers me when a male principal decides this is all ok. I know it says he consulted parents and pupils - but really did people know the consequences before they all shouted "oh yeah, let's have teenage boys share the bathroom with teenage girls having a period".

I heard this talked about on Lunchtime Live on Newstalk earlier - I was proud of myself as I actually emailed in to mention Self ID, and said it was a concern for many women - mentioned the prison situation etc. Unfortunately they didn't read it out Sad.

Most people who texted in said that a third space was needed in addition to male/female which is reassuring.
They also had someone on from TENI I think...'Vannesa' somebody Hmm.

I also agree that this will really sharpen people's minds as it is on the front page of the newspaper and is about children. Most people understand the need for young girls to have separate spaces due to embarrassment during their period etc.

It's great this is getting coverage.

The discussion on Liveline was much more reasonable than I expected.

There was a post about this recently. Some great points raised on it. I can’t believe the department has bought into this (actually I can Angry)
