Of the ever-changing terminology and concepts about trans if I can use the word just by itself. Today I was reading a short review of a novel about lives and loves of trans persons in New York in the TLS which used so much terminology I never would have understood had I not been reading mumsnet and this board specifically. I have always been a feminist since my teenage years but had not kept up to date with developments. I had always regarded 'sex change' as it used to be termed as a conservative notion but like many others thought it was very much a minority concern. I came here about 2 years ago to try to understand why the GRC was controversial and stayed for the knowledgeable posts and wide-ranging discussion. An example of the terms used I would not have known is cis privilege and probably there are quite a few other TLS readers none the wiser as no definitions were offered in a short (just over 1 column) review. So thanks for the informative posts.

I feel the same way and started following about the same time. Sometimes I wish I didn't know what I now do 🤨🤨

Ha, yes it is , I just went and fetched the paper in case anyone asked. Did you read it? It seems to be a long novel with some odd events like, " When Ames inadvertently impregnates his lover and boss..."Inadvertantly, how does that happen? One of those American water cooler moments?

It can be quite depressing but I am grateful for the insight I have gained into the world of Twitter and other social media because it has saved me from thinking I am missing out by not following any of it. Mumsnet can be quite overwhelming for me no to mention perilous.

Thanks for that link, AnyOldPrion, I had seen that thread but did not relate it to the paper review I read. Shows how much I take in names and titles. Reading the paper review without access to the internet made me realise how much new (to me) information I had taken in on the topic. I think the review would have passed me by before. There has been a noticable change in the tone of the TLS this last year. Not commenting on whether that is good or bad but noticable to those with awareness.
