Been listening to this podcast . I lived up there at the time and remember when Emma went missing . So sad. Anyone who claims prostitution is a legitimate way of women to make money and that women have agency doing it , should listen to this . Especially those who are trying to put it forward as a saying of getting through uni.

I finished this yesterday, its quite a harrowing listen.
Brave women who came forward and told their stories.
Hopefully the man responsible will be held accountable.

So sad for that young woman.

"Working" in prostitution gives you a likelihood of being murdered to be 60 to 100 x higher than the general population.

A councillor in our city is posting the Nordic model is not fit for purpose, seems clueless over how much the johns hate the women they are exploiting, thanks for the heads up on this shaggers.

Yeah Emma's friend said she disliked the term sex worker and glamourising of it.

I live in Glasgow so it brought it all home listening to all the streets I know well. The police attitudes seem unchanged and that is obviously a massive issue. Prostitiues viewed as less than human.

Shaggervalley · 12/04/2021 00:25

Same here ,Willow79. Hearing the streets that I know so well and the horror that comes out for women at night ,is really sad. I used to work with alot of women who worked The Drag (drug services)and there was alot of the time , a boyfriend making them go on the streets . Yes , I clocked that too, that about them being called a sex worker . I felt so angry after listening to this as the police messed up big time . I so hope justice is found for Emma and the monster who murdered her is locked up for a long time for her mum's sake.

I've just finished listening to this too. The contempt shown by the police towards Emma and other victims of male sexual violence, is disgusting. The evidence against one man is pretty damning and yet he has walked free for 16 years.

Really depressing, but please listen to the whole thing. This story needs to be heard and shared.

I listened to this. It was absolutely enraging at every turn. The police have clearly been abysmal. Poor Emma and her poor mother.

Viewfromtheisland · 16/04/2021 08:22

Thanks for highlighting, I listened yesterday and it is harrowing but well worth finishing the series.

Thanks for flagging this @Shaggervalley, I listened to the whole thing today. Absolutely awful. Listening to Emma's friend talk about the abuse she experienced as a prostitute was very upsetting, and I'm grateful to her for speaking out.

I wish with all my heart that the 'sex work is work' brigade would take a break from tweeting about 'personal choice' and 'empowerment' and listen to the real consequences of the ideas they promote.
