Minister for Women & Equalities, Liz Truss, said:
“The UK has a proud history of championing the rights of women and girls both here and across the globe.
“I’m pleased that we are using our presidency of the G7 to put women at the heart of our recovery from Covid. We will see a brilliant group of people come together to help us break down barriers for women and girls – empowering them and boosting opportunity.
“Women are rightly at the forefront of our recovery from COVID-19 and the work of the G7, and the Gender Equality Advisory Council will advance these efforts on a global scale, helping women across the globe build back better everywhere.

My understanding is that although this doesn't replace the LGBT Advisory panel, that group has expired/disbanded (hence the flounces about a month before it ended) and this is the new focus for the GEO but happy to be proven wrong (well not happy as I think this is a good move overall).

I am very heartened for see Julie Bishop involved here. I was disappointed that she was not Australia’s PM.

Considering this is across the G7, I suspect it is not that relevant for the domestic LGBT advisory group is it?

I hope though that they at least get the definition of woman right.

This looks promising.

Perks up ears

FlippinFumin · 10/04/2021 10:13

Gender Equality though? Surely should be sex?

OhHolyJesus · 10/04/2021 10:16

I balked at 'gender' too but I'm hoping that it's just habit and it's going to be very much about biological sex.

One to watch I think. You can sign up for GEO updates.

The UK has a proud history of championing the rights of women and girls both here and across the globe.

The country led by a man who is a misogynist and treats women like dirt in his private life. If Liz Truss had any pride in the rights of women, why did she agree to be in the government or even support him as leader?

More info here (it being politics, the whole thing seems built on sub-committees of under-policies, so I got a wee bit lost, but:)
