England Rugby - Definition of Female

GCSEmum2024 · 07/04/2021 18:38

My eldest DD plays rugby for local girls team. She loves it and she's good at it- I think will continue to play at university.

Female rugby players are more prone to rugby related injuries such as concussion and this definition will put biologically female players at risk.

Have contacted the club to check their position on allowing people with low testosterone levels to play in their girls team.

So so angry. And sad. But mostly angry.

Really?? That is just awful. How the hell have we ended up here.

NiceGerbil · 07/04/2021 18:39

There's another thread. They're arseholes.

OhHolyJesus · 07/04/2021 18:44

It sucks OP I know. Make sure you complete their survey and use the free text box at the end to let them know your thoughts.

Your daughter could also complete it and so could her team mates.

Leafstamp · 07/04/2021 18:46

Here's the other thread OP.

It's an absolutely disgusting definition.

namechangeforthisjjjjjj · 07/04/2021 20:25

it is a definition that deserves a thread all of its own... it is unbelievable...who ? How? Surely even if someone wrote it, someone else would have thought hang on a sec...

and did they even run it past a woman?

Given that the survey didn't give woman as an option - rather 'cis woman'- I suspect not.

Thank you for pointers to other thread. It has helped fuel my rage!

Here's the link to the survey about the policy. It includes a video which gives an overview about their proposal, and the written document.

Me and DH have both completed it, he used to play rugby so wanted to. I mean he thinks it's bollocks obviously.

UppityPuppity · 07/04/2021 20:59

So does this mean children are sexless until they reach puberty and then we can define through measurement of testosterone?

Embarrassing...

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 07/04/2021 21:34

Just back to the Aristotelian idea of women as incomplete/deficient men, then.

The misogyny is strong with England Rugby, that’s for sure.

Shame on them.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 07/04/2021 21:36

Good call. It’s batshittery.
dudsville · 07/04/2021 21:41

You can tick "other" and write on "woman"

GCSEmum2024 · 07/04/2021 21:47

@dudsville

I did but genuinely flabbergasted that 50% of the population is considered to be an 'other'.
OP posts:
Feelinghothothottoday · 07/04/2021 21:56

So woman is a non man.

aliasundercover · 07/04/2021 21:56

Short and probably pointless survey.

Now that they've 'consulted' they will do what they want.

Leafstamp · 07/04/2021 22:07

Oops, forgot to link to thread:

Beamur · 07/04/2021 22:20

Oh do give over England Rugby that is just appalling.
How offensive and reductive. We're not defective men.

StillAFemale · 07/04/2021 22:34

So presumably that means England Rugby believe men suffering from hypogonadism are really female. Since causes of hypogonadism in men are almost always due to medical conditions do they propose hospitals tell male cancer patients undergoing chemo that if the treatment causes a reduction in testosterone they will henceforth be called women?

That definition sounds bonkers

gluteustothemaximus · 07/04/2021 22:37

Did the survey.

Bit depressed I was 'other' Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2021 23:10

I did but genuinely flabbergasted that 50% of the population is considered to be an 'other'.

'Twas ever thus. But now, apparently not even a discrete 'second sex'.

NiceGerbil · 07/04/2021 23:41

StillAFemale

I made that point on the other thread let me find it.

NiceGerbil · 07/04/2021 23:45

Also just thought.

This policy (and the IOC) with their testosterone level thing are saying that any man with testosterone lower than that is a non man, not a real man. A woman. That's a massive kick in the teeth for men may well already be feeling pretty bloody sensitive about it.

Ditto the weight/ height thing. Reminds me of that old USA advert about being a 7 stone weakling and needing the atlas program. Boys and men are very hierarchical and judgemental about the physique of other men.

What message does this send ?

I mean for years big strong women have had men saying they look like men as an insult.

Now we have big strong butch rugby saying if you're under this height/ weight/ testosterone then you're a woman?

That's really really shitty.
