Well, they might as well read palms to detect 'gender hate', it'll be about as useful as any other method once they find themselves trying to define exactly what it is they're accusing someone of.

NiceGerbil · 07/04/2021 02:27

I'm confused.

Their website says

'A hate crime is defined as 'Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person's race or perceived race; religion or perceived religion; sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; disability or perceived disability and any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.'

A hate incident is any incident which the victim, or anyone else, thinks is based on someone’s prejudice towards them because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or because they are transgender.'

Ok.

They are adding gender? What does that mean?

If a person is agender but they get abuse due to their sex (get your tits out blondie!) is that a thing they are interested in?

The abuse is due to sex. Not gender...?

If someone shouts that at a trans man or woman then it becomes a crime?

I don't get it.

I've tweeted to report myself for not having a gender ID

Witchesbelazy · 07/04/2021 08:52

Really worrying

yourhairiswinterfire · 07/04/2021 11:24

Every woman in Derbyshire needs to report every incident, especially ones on social media. Fight fire with fire.

Absolutely.

MN won't let me post the screenshot (it's playing up today), but the police tweeted this in response to someone asking if people throwing t*rf and 'cis scum' around could be reported.

twitter.com/ejm_bo/status/1379437494782074881

We know hate crimes are all about our own perception, if we think it's hate, then it's hate, no questions asked. So...

'Cis' is offensive to many women (and men), even without the 'scum' bit. People who don't identify as a 'cis' are still labelled so constantly. Deliberately calling someone 'cis', short for 'cisgender', when they haven't explicitly asked you to is misgendering, therefore a 'gender crime'. Misgendering is also violence, therefore a 'hate crime'. Continuing to call someone 'cis' when they've asked you to stop is harassment.

That's how this works, right?

Fire with fire.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 07/04/2021 12:10

Crime is in the eye of the beholder then? So could I report my neighbour who royally offends me when he sings the Lion King tune over and over and over? Or the people two floors down when they fry stinky food and smoke cigars on the wee small hours?

peak2021 · 07/04/2021 12:22

Derbyshire Police have been a failed police force in my opinion for years. Their response to Covid 19 enforcement especially the use of social media was spectacularly unhelpful. I think the Police Inspectorate formally rated them as failing a few years ago.

ChristinaXYZ · 07/04/2021 13:33

If you're in Manchester then I notice this candidate for mayor has said recording of hate crime will stop under his tenure if he gets in (does the mayor have that power?).

twitter.com/NickBuckleyMBE/status/1379551388477313028

It is so hard to find out what candidates for different roles thing about free speech / women's rights etc. Knowing which party they stand for is of little help. Useful to know this at least. Though if he did get in then as someone else said earlier in the thread the cultural differences in policing between Manchester and Derbyshire over the border will be bizarre.

I recently read the book about Stephen Downing - the worst case of miscarriage of justice in the UK - and the force involved was Derbyshire, the book noted that Derbyshire Constabulary is the only force ever to have lost their Certificate of Efficiency three years running and a damning report on them by the Inspectorate was described as the worst ever on any police force by the then Home Secretary. So, yes, it seems that the failure is embedded and has been for decades.
NiceGerbil · 08/04/2021 02:09

But what do they mean by gender based crime?

Have they given examples? What sort of things and who they could be aimed at.

They mention misogyny on their stuff about this. Misogyny is not a word that everyone knows. And what does it mean? Hatred of women. Most of the random abuse I've got while out and about from men... I don't think they saw me as a person at all. And how can I know their motivation?

IF they want eg young women to report getting abuse shouted at them, or followed, wanked at etc. Then say it FFS.

What does it mean?
