This article is an interesting example of the rights - or not - of women and girls to dignity and privacy within the justice system. It seems extraordinary and horrifying to me that a 15 year old could be forcibly strip-searched with a male present.

I wonder if the 15 year old being aboriginal had anything to do with the decision. Given the far too recent history of ill-treatment and discrimination towards aboriginal people in Australia.

I was very surprised that they wouldn’t allocate a female judge and ateam of female experts to look at this. It should be entirely possible, especially in cases with underage girls and with cultural sensitivities in mind.

From the girl's point of view, I'm betting she feels as though this is tantamount to these officers having made child pornography images of her, which they now want to share. I hope she can afford decent legal advice.
