"The GLAAD Accountability Project catalogs anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and discriminatory actions of politicians, commentators, organization heads, religious leaders, and legal figures, who have used their platforms, influence and power to spread misinformation and harm LGBTQ people."

Obviously they've included GC people on this list and taken their words out of context, for example heres JK Rowlings page www.glaad.org/gap/jk-rowling
archive.is/wip/KPKtL

They've taken her words out of context and haven't linked to the orginal sources like her letter about DV. Also whats the point in reading someones book when you can just quote from an incorrect telegraph article about it.

Do we just email them to have our names added? How does it work?

FightingTheFoo · 06/04/2021 20:26

This is really chilling. Google Jesse Singal if you're not familiar with him already. He's been utterly slandered and his career destroyed.

MichelleofzeResistance · 06/04/2021 21:02

I'll just point out the interesting double standards too.

There's a lot of protest and pointing out of how sinister lists can be when it comes to a census, not wanting records held like that regardless of the innocence of their original purpose.

But absolutely fine to create an intentional black list of those to punish for their sins.

Isn't it funny how othering that is? And the lack of reciprocal empathy and values?

I looked up what they say about Helen Lewis. It starts
"Wrote in opposition to U.K. legislation that would ease the process of changing one’s legal gender by, in part, removing the requirement of a medical diagnosis from two separate doctors. Lewis wrote, “What the government proposes is a radical rewriting of our understanding of identity: now it’s a question of an internal essence—a soul, if you will. Being a woman or a man is now entirely in your head.” Lewis also asked, “In this climate, who would challenge someone with a beard exposing their penis in a women’s changing room?”
And it continues.
Instead of linking to where she actually wrote that, they link to a hatchet job in wired who quote an op Ed in the Times. That seems to be their MO.

Though to be fair there do link to two articles by her.

This apparently counts as disparaging Harry Potter fans: "Fans are discovering that someone they once treated as omniscient, someone they loved with a ferocious, possessive, childish love, is an entirely different person, with different values from their own.”

Gosh. Over-sensitive much?

My God, wait till they hear about Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and Charles Dickens! 😱

Yes, those entirely different values would be feminist values and care for women and girls, safeguarding children, and fairness.

Are they also realising that magic isn’t real and Hogworts doesn’t exist?

Wash your mouth out! Only joking, I'd like to recruit you for the Muggle Worthy Excuse Committee.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 07/04/2021 20:32

Fun fact - when I was little I used to write stories and books (needless to say, unpublished) and one was about a school for witches called The Night School (copyright Toffeebutterlopcorn 1975).

Every evening you got into your school uniform and sat on the end of your bed with your hands on your knees and was magically spirited away to the witch school, where you learned about spells and cursing people (I was more like Wednesday Adams in that respect) and in the morning you’d wake up in your own bed.

Sigh. I really really wanted to be a witch. But I actually grew out of it by the time I was about 9.

I hope they have good lawyers because writing lies about famous people, doesn’t usually go down very well.

Cwenthryth · 08/04/2021 04:38

I would have loved to have read that as a child toffee

I modelled myself on a mashup of Mildred Hubble/a young female version of Mr Majeika
