This is some list

www.glaad.org/tdovletter

'In observance of Women’s History Month and Transgender Day of Visibility, we write this letter as feminist leaders in advocacy, business, entertainment, media, politics, and social justice who stand as, with, and for transgender and nonbinary people. Trans women and girls have been an integral part of the fight for gender liberation. We uphold that truth and denounce the ongoing anti-transgender rhetoric and efforts we witness in various industries.

We acknowledge with clarity and strength that transgender women are women and that transgender girls are girls. And we believe that honoring the diversity of women’s experiences is a strength, not a detriment to the feminist cause. All of us deserve the same access, freedoms, and opportunities. We deserve equal access to education, employment, healthcare, housing, recreation, and public accommodations. And we must respect each person’s right to bodily autonomy and self-determination.'

Gloria is such a disappointment.

A fine and noble sentiment indeed, and doesn't it sound great?

But it's easy to parrot such poetic statements - what about solutions, Gloria? Can we then let any man who says he is a woman into women's prisons, sports, refuges? Because that's what you might as well be saying..... Why not specify that, then? Why doesn't your letter say 'any man who says he is a woman should be let into women' s spaces no matter what they have done, no matter what stage of transition they are at, even if it makes women uncomfortable.... '

Because it doesn't sound as good? I refuse to believe they don't realise that this is really what they are advocating for.....

Gloria Steinem? The Gloria Steinem? Jesus what I miss? Since when has she been mainlining koolaid?

PotholeHellhole · 31/03/2021 20:22

Months and months, I'm afraid.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 31/03/2021 20:23

@OhHolyJesus

For quite a while. Hard to believe that the author of "If Men Menstruated" (excellent 1970s essay) know thinks that they do.
Xpectations · 31/03/2021 20:29

Dear Gloria,
My sister is a disabled woman who needs support with intimate care.
She does not want anyone born male providing assistance.
Do you respect her right to bodily autonomy, or is she a bigot?
Yours etc,

rabbitwoman · 31/03/2021 20:30

To me honest, I identified more with Phyllis Schlafly - often called a misogynistic woman, she was no such thing - if anything, she was a realist and i think she was a visionary, like she had a crystal ball or something! Equal rights for women mean nothing without robust and appropriate protections. Of course a woman should be paid the same wage for doing exactly the same job as a man - but what happens when that woman gets pregnant and can no longer do the exact same job as her male counterpart? What happens when that baby comes along and that woman now has to nourish that baby, care for that baby?

Phyllis would have had no time for TWAW - not unless they can have babies and will stay at home to look after them!

I tell you, America has gone through the proverbial looking glass.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 31/03/2021 20:31

Is GLAAD the organisation that recently, totally accidentally, put its hit list on the internet?

lionheart · 31/03/2021 20:36

Look at the organisations who work with victims of sexual and domestic violence on that list.

More luxury beliefs from liberal narcissists...yawn

Thelnebriati · 31/03/2021 20:38

Imagine being so insulated you can't imagine ever needing a women only DV shelter, prison or psychiatric ward; and because you don't think you'll need one, no other women is entitled to one either.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 31/03/2021 20:40

More luxury beliefs from liberal narcissists.

Sadly, yes.

aliasundercover · 31/03/2021 20:45

transgender women are women and that transgender girls are girls

So it's all about males then? Transmen and transboys not mentioned, after all, they're only female.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/03/2021 20:45

That is incredibly depressing to see. Who are ‘Girls for Gender Equality” ?

More and more I’m worrying that these people do actually think there is a magic ‘change’.

"the fight for gender liberation"

Didn't it used to be the fight for liberation from gender? Is it now that gender itself is to be liberated to allow it spread through society and make everything properly gendered again?

We are in the Upside Down.

BlackWaveComing · 31/03/2021 21:02

Elite 'feminism'.

Plenty of issues facing girls and women they themselves could be getting on with.

ClocksChange · 31/03/2021 21:04

Yes, funny that.

Somehow one can always tell who the females are - even when they pretend otherwise.

NB for anyone unsure - They are the irrelevant ones...irrespective of how they identify.

FlyPassed · 31/03/2021 21:11

Do you think we'll need to release a statement saying that women are women and girls are girls, at some point? Or is there something distinctive about TW that means everyone has to say TWAW at every given opportunity? If TWAW aren't they just saying women are women?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2021 21:13

It's a good point Flypassed

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2021 21:14

As is this! The goalposts have definitely been moved.

HashtagLurky · 31/03/2021 21:22

I read "If Men Menstruated" as an example of polemic during my English A' level. It was funny and daring. How very disappointing Steinem has become. Why are older so-called feminist women - I include Angela Davis in this - selling us out?

nauticant · 31/03/2021 21:28

This Angela Davis?

Glad you said this. When I watched the recent series, I actually thought Phyllis, in her opposition, was accurately predicting what would happen and where we are now. In particular, she predicted that women who stayed at home to raise families would become completely devalued, and she was right. Liberal feminism never did elevate women, it merely allowed women to compete in a man's game on men's terms.

Same with Mary Whitehouse and her opposition to pornography creeping into the mainstream. I want to go back to the '80s and really listen to her.
