Lib Dem MP tweeted this at LGB alliance

'Let me make this very clear @ALLIANCELGB following your email to me today.

I am a trans rights activist. My party is categorically a supporter #LGBTQI rights.

I will not be effectively lobbied into denying people their basic human rights.

#TransRightsAreHumanRights END OF.'

And then went on to 'like' several awful tweets, including one saying

'Jamie Stone told the TERFs to "eat shit 💖'
And
'fuck em up Socrates'

Which were answering his tweet.

glad he's not my MP.

Shocking. but typical of the liberal left in UK and USA.
They do not understand we all have human rights.

ALL equal, but that does not mean biological men, who ID and dress as women have a right to undermine basic women's right to female private spaces, nor female only sports.

Lib dems were shown to be so out of touch with UK electorate in General election, they do not learn lessons.

They assume appeasing LBGT statements will get them elected. They forget the majority of UK electorate respect common sense, democracy and women's rights.

WE all have equal rights - this MP has become confused.

That'll be ex-council leader Vikki Slade, who lost a motion of no-confidence recently

I haven't seen the content of the email to which Stone alludes but I'd be startled if there's any point of resemblance between the implicit content of Stone's summary and the actuality of the communication.

Perhaps it would be helpful to know the content so that it's possible for others to judge for themselves whether Stone has given a reliable summary or is demonstrating that Stone isn't a reliable narrator.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 30/03/2021 16:47

This sort of crap is why I recently had to tell a LibDem friend of mine that no, I wouldn't be putting a LibDem poster up for the local council elections, after doing so for bloody years.

Fuck knows who I'll be voting for.

Datun · 30/03/2021 16:52

Eat shit and fuck em up?

Good lord.

What a great look.

Kit19 · 30/03/2021 16:52

god why are (some) MPs so utterly juvenile and lacking dignity these days?

Im sure Jamie gets a ton of emails about things he doesnt like or agree with from organisations - that's part and parcel of being an MP but I doubt he takes to twitter to earn himself brownie points by publicly slagging them off

do they not see how much the average person looks at them and thinks 'why on earth would I vote for someone like this?'.

I used to be a Lib Dem member, I wouldn't vote for them these days if you paid me

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 30/03/2021 16:56

Are there any politicians left in the Lib Dems and Greens (and Labour to an increasing extent) capable of critical thinking? Or do they recruit "talent" nowadays on the basis of how well they recite the catechism?

highame · 30/03/2021 17:00

The average person doesn't use Twitter, so I guess he thinks he's pretty safe. Funny though, word does seem to get around. Maybe his seat is so safe he really doesn't need to worry

Interesting rhetorical device because it ties people up in denying that framing rather than discussing the actual content and argument. And that's what severely handicaps anyone who accepts an invitation to discuss such matters on MSM, they spend their time answering questions about things they've never said.
NatalieShortman · 30/03/2021 17:10

And this is why I vote Tory now 🤷‍♀️

Kit19 · 30/03/2021 17:11

not all that safe...

"He was re-elected in the 2019 general election with 11,705 votes, but a reduced majority of 204.[21]

he's also 66 ffs! how embarrassing to behave like this with that amount of life experience

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 30/03/2021 17:12

He's the party's Defence and Digital, Culture, Media & Sport spokesman, which is very Lib Dem.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2021 17:13

He's 66? Grow up, man Grin

Kit19 · 30/03/2021 17:14

I suppose when you only have 8 MPs you have to double up Grin

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 30/03/2021 17:16

With so few MPs you'd think they'd be making themselves more relevant to the average voter, not less.

Datun · 30/03/2021 18:53

66?

Crikey.

Dimpsey · 30/03/2021 20:45

Apropos of nothing , in his Twitter bio he describes himself as 'Parliament’s Panto Dame'.

ChakaDakotaRegina · 30/03/2021 20:55

He’s looking at Sport but he’s not interested in this? Hmm
JustSpeculation · 30/03/2021 21:37

The Lib Dems have always attracted strange people. I have voted for them in every election since 1979 (before they existed! They were just the Libs then), and I often ask myself why. There is a fightback in the party against the nonsense, but it will take time. I won't be voting for them in the upcoming election. First preference to Binface, because there are a couple of great policies - the issue of hand dryers is a vexing one, and it's good to see it addressed. Then we'll see about the second.

Clymene · 30/03/2021 21:40

Good god. The Lib Dem's really are on a mission to make this country a two party democracy

gardenbird48 · 30/03/2021 21:47

I'm half looking forward to the door knockers now - as long as they don't start shouting at me (like apparently some canvassers have).

ArabellaScott · 30/03/2021 22:24

66?

This is embarrassing. END OF.

NiceGerbil · 30/03/2021 22:29

'I will not be effectively lobbied into denying people their basic human rights.'

I had no idea that so many people- including politicians!- have no idea what that universal human rights declaration actually says Hmm

NiceGerbil · 30/03/2021 22:30

It's never specified which human rights they mean

WarOnWomen · 30/03/2021 22:41

Goodness. 66? Is it him writing those tweets or his assistants? Although it does not matter because it’s obviously coming out from his office.

I am wondering if increasing numbers of politicians are forgetting Nolan principles or whether they think it doesn’t apply to them.
