"Women are just as bad as men"

I feel sick after reading the local new's Facebook page about an incident that happened yesterday. It's a public page with public comments but I'm reluctant to link to the actual page in case of privacy issues. I'll link the news page though :

Man in critical condition and woman arrested following incident at park www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/man-critical-condition-woman-arrested-20241644

There are comments saying that women are as bad as men, that women should have a curfew, how women are to be feared, sexist memes about a curfew to ensure women have dinner in the table for their men and such like. It was bad enough reading comments from men but the ones from female posters are awful saying that men are abused as much as women but don't talk about it. How women are victims less than men etc.

I'd like to point out that at this point it's not been in the news as to if the man has died despite the comments on social media, or anything that happened except what is in the link and I wouldn't want to speculate. I was in the park when the first ambulance arrived quickly followed by the air ambulance then loads of police and more paramedics. I mean no disrespect with my post and hope it's ok seeing as it's in the news but am irritated for it to be taken down. My reason for posting was the sheer volume of misogyny coming from both men and women and how bitter so many sound towards women. Why? Why is there so much hatred towards women?

From reading comments on my local newspaper's facebook page, women victim blame, slut shame, NAMALT and whatabout every bit as much if not more so than men.
I see tons of "well what was she doing out by herself", or "what did she expect?" type comments from women all the time.
So it's no surprise to me that you are seeing these comments.
I doubt many people genuinely believe women do this as much as men.

gardenbird48 · 24/03/2021 14:00

was this definitely a woman?

According to Ecosia search Section 47 assault is where Actual Bodily Harm is caused. More serious than common assault but not as bad as GBH.

It is very bizarre that even though the vast majority of violent and sexual assaults are committed by men, people react quite strongly to a woman (if that is true in this case - we have no way of telling) committing any kind of violence.

Society has much higher expectations of kind and gentle behaviour from women? (I think so) and can't cope if we step out of line while it seems that bad behaviour from men is less noticeable.

Prepared for it to be taken down, not irritated.

We know nothing about what happened, what the relationship between the two was or what prompted it. Being treated for a medical episode doesn't mean he was being treated for the results of the assault.

There recent coverage has created a backlash by those who need to change the most.

Doyoumind · 24/03/2021 14:07

*The recent coverage

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 24/03/2021 14:10

At the very least, if women were as bad as men he wouldn't be in hospital.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 24/03/2021 14:14

Being treated for a medical episode doesn't mean he was being treated for the results of the assault.

That's quite a bizarre interpretation. It says he is in a critical condition and she has been arrested for section 47 assault.
"Medical episode" is strange wording, I agree.

Not really. He could be in a critical condition due to a medical episode e.g. a heart attack. His critical condition may not be due to injuries from the attack. It's ABH not GBH. If the attack caused injuries that left him in a critical condition why refer to a medical episode at all?

Someone was receiving CPR when the ambulance arrived. I could see that but there was a group of people standing close so I couldn't make anything else out and didn't see any altercation. We only stood around for the helicopters as such a rarity to see one so close and land so close. School leaving time too so lots of people around.
Horrible.

I found the article on Facebook you mentioned and had a look. tbh half the comments are along the lines of "he must have been sexually harassing her so she defended herself". Only a small number of people on there are saying "women are just as bad as men".

NiceGerbil · 25/03/2021 00:37

Can you put a link up to the Facebook please? I can't find it.

beautifulmonument · 25/03/2021 08:36

Misogynists get so excited when they think a woman has committed a violent crime.
I try to avoid reading comments on those types of news articles as I know they will be awful.
It's a small but vocal minority (I like to think).

FlatteredFool · 25/03/2021 10:00

@NiceGerbil here you go. I've just reread it in light of what Margaritapie said and the comments are mainly misogynistic from what I can see but I can't access all comments.,

He could be, but then why was a woman arrested for assault?

Erkrie · 25/03/2021 11:44

It still doesn't change facts. That man are more violent than women. That's why we have around 75000 male prison places and only about 3500 female prison places. The odd occasion when a woman is violent doesn't change the fact that it is men who are generally far more violent than women.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 25/03/2021 11:53

Sounds a lot like an assault (or possibly a fight) which triggered a heart attack.

Doesn’t really tell us anything either way about the levels of violence involved from the woman arrested, you’d just need to wait for the outcome (you could be waiting some time given the state of the courts).
