Positions of Power - Transwomen vs Transmen

Does anyone know of any studies or articles that compare the number of Transwomen vs Transwomen in positions of power (political positions, in companies, other organizations, etc). I'm basically interested in empirical evidence that transwomen keep male privilege or evidence that they don't.

OP posts:

I would love to see some data on this, and if transmen gain also

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 23/03/2021 15:26

Ah yes, that would be interesting.

SweetGrapes · 23/03/2021 15:29

Transmen are famous for giving birth. Transwomen are famous for posts that they hold, views that they have, actions they have taken & awards that they have won.

Does that tell you anything?

Fame isn’t everything. When it comes to transactivism, there are two highly influential names that stand out for being very influential, but not particularly visible, unless you search: Stephen Whittle is possibly the most influential British transactivist. James Morton is another.

OhHolyJesus · 23/03/2021 17:42

Nothing I've seen on this though I'd love to see a comparison.

Don't forget the non binary of gender queer Pippa/Philip Bunce who has a credit Suisse award as a woman.

I've been invited to an inclusivity event through work and one of the speakers is a TW. It dawned on me that it's always TWs speaking publically, entering sports and so on. Where are the TM? It's almost as if they are socialised differently or something.

Imnobody4 · 23/03/2021 17:56

Yes, I suspect Transmen are just getting on with the job with minimum fuss.

Hoppinggreen · 23/03/2021 17:58

Maybe there are some but I have yet to hear about a Transman being given a high profile post that was reserved for a man. I don’t know of transmen who feature in “powerful men” editorials or who advertise products aimed at men

As an activist Buck Angel is a great role model - of course he knows what life is like as a woman and advocates for women's rights and against transitioning children; he gets a lot of flack on twitter but always bat's it back with good humour, politeness and knowledge ; he calls himself Tranpa, which I love.

Check him out.

rabbitwoman · 23/03/2021 19:35

..... and Elliot page. We should watch this space, I am sure he will be most influential in the halls of Hollywood and beyond....

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2021 20:05

Some of the TM mentioned have a degree of influence (mostly/all pertaining to trans issues?) but I'm not sure they have political/business/wider cultural clout in the same way as various TW.

And Scott Newgent. Both very funny too.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 20:12

Tranpa was a drop dead gorgeous fashion model back in the day...

Biscuitsanddoombar · 23/03/2021 20:19

Buck and Scott are great but are they invited to address conferences on men’s issues a la munroe bergdorf or front campaigns on products for men a la Paris lees?

it would be really interesting to see how many TM are in positions of influence compared with TW

PermanentTemporary · 23/03/2021 21:05

In the UK Stephen Whittle has been SO influential that the public policy/power balance does look better. Their name is everywhere in this issue - including posting on MN of course - and has been for ?20-30 years.

We are in a new world of which sex transitions when in their lives, but men transitioning at a mature age are going to have more social capital and will be more used to some form of power (personal, if not social) than teenage girls transitioning. It does feel like a huge imbalance.

This absolutely. The sex imbalance that exists throughout society obviously persists despite transition. But though it’s visible (we can see most of those entering politics and influencing parties are of the obvious sex, even though they haven’t as yet made it to the front line) like the OP, I think it would be interesting to look at figures. Perhaps looking at specific arenas, such as political parties or the BBC would be an interesting study, though getting the figures wouldn’t be easy unless you had access or contacts.
