Why was he still walking the streets?

I know that Mumsnet is rather snobbish at Daily Mail links but this is far too important to be coy about.

Laura waived her right to anonymity to tell her story. Her attacker, Callum Jamieson had years of sexual offences convictions behind him:

  • Jailed for nine months in May 2015 for groping a woman.
  • In December 2015 (you do the maths) he was jailed for 26 months for similar assaults on two different women within the space of a few days.
  • Fast forward to June 2019 and he got a suspended sentence for causing GBH to a woman in her sixties (the article doesn't say whether it was sexually motivated or a robbery).
  • Finally in December 2019 he raped Laura.

These are only the things that he was caught for, I dread to think what such a prolific offender hadn't been caught for.

He had shown an escalating pattern of sexual assaults and a conviction for GBH. Why the hell was he still a free man?

Just to add that the rape conviction only got him eight years. The man is a persistent danger to the public with little sign that he may reform.

I have absolutely no idea. I am often puzzled at hearing the history of violent offenders who aren't put away, then seeing things like some - not all - of these fraudsters who were put away.

The physical risk to the public from someone who defrauded their employer is surely lower than the rapist!

I was going to say that's unbelievable -- but it isn't is it?
The torrent of males getting minimal sentences for sexual assaults on women and children is grim. And results in this.
And well done to Laura Prada. She's a courageous woman. Flowers

Rape just isn't taken seriously by men.

From a man's perspective it's like "oh it's only rubbing you up, how bad can it be, easy to get over it.. you're wrong to try ruin a man's life over his over enthusiasm, take it as a compliment..."
That attitude is not going away anytime soon.

There's currently a petition for a serial perp and stalker register like the sex offenders register. I wont post a link in case its deleted, but its on the Petitions board (titled Domestic violence) if anyone wants to sign.

Done

Link for the petitions board, in case anyone can't find it. There's another one
'Abolish time limits to bring charges for offences for acts of domestic violence' which is related - some men escape investigation and prosecution.

Sorry, forgot the link

The idea of having money stolen from them horrifies men more than the idea of a woman being raped. We are other.
