"On 24 October 1975, 75,000 women in Iceland left their jobs, children and homes and took to the streets for a general strike that was billed “Women’s Day Off”."

"Forty-five years after the Women’s Day Off, Iceland has ranked top in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report – an index that examines educational opportunities, life expectancy, pay equity and the average time spent on housework – in 13 of the past 16 years."

Women Uniting posted this yesterday:

“One day strike, minimum. Withdrawal of all women’s paid and unpaid labour apart from that which is essential to maintain the comfort and safety of children and the vulnerable. If we are not allowed to protest, what other choice do we have?”

The problem is maintaining the comfort and safety of children and the vulnerable is a significant part of the issue. It is the assumption that we will do this lets men off the hook.
