We had a thread recently where she was getting kicked for her TWAW public view.
She does lots for women and girls, I'm glad someone makes sure the victims of malevolence are remembered and officially covered in Parliament

I think that she gets flack because she poses as being so pro-women.

teawamutu · 11/03/2021 13:16

@MaMaLa321

This. Layla Moran, Lisa Nandy et al are just useful idiots - they are firmly pro-tra and anti women. I ignore them.

Jess Phillips, I'm convinced, completely gets it but is choosing to pretend she doesn't. If she - and others like her - were a bit braver, we wouldn't be in this fecking mess.

MaudTheInvincible · 11/03/2021 13:18

Yes EmbarrassingAdmissions!

Every time I'm grateful or willing to settle for the sub-optimal, I'm doing reinforcing the current status rather than establishing a normal that is accessible by default.

We absolutely should be expecting more protection for women from our public servants and the legislation and policies they create. Makes me think of the wonderful Johann Lamont's speech yesterday

No, I don't think that JP is being held to a higher standard than male MPs. She is expected to understand what existing while female entails though, and not to pretend she is oblivious to the challenges that brings.

Procrastinator3 · 11/03/2021 13:23

Very well put, Barracker. Phillips enables the rest.

LizzieSiddal · 11/03/2021 13:24

I like Jess, she does more than most regarding Women and girls, but she's playing a game regarding her TWAW stance. Jo Cox was a close friend of hers and and I think she fears for her personal safety, if she dared to say what she really thinks.

I was listening to her interview this morning and I just wanted the interviewer to ask 'How does self ID help women to feel more safe' But that's never going to happen.

Hoppinggreen · 11/03/2021 13:26

Yes she totally advocates for safe spaces for women - and men as long as you say you aren’t one.

nauticant · 11/03/2021 13:27

This is worth eye rolling over though:

nauticant · 11/03/2021 13:31

I should have included the complete tweet she retweeted:

PronounssheRa · 11/03/2021 13:32

Nauticant

Jess has deleted a couple of tweets recently which suggest she clearly knows what the issue is, she is just afraid to voice them.

It's damning of the Labour Party.

nauticant · 11/03/2021 13:35

Yes, it's what I posted first thing on another thread, Jess Phillips knows that TWAW is a "necessary" political position for her but will only keep hold of it until it's no longer useful.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 11/03/2021 13:41

Totally agree with Barracker, 100 per cent.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 11/03/2021 13:48

Jess knows.

Karen Ingala Smith’s told her, Mumsnetters have told her on a webchat, Ereshkigal & I told her in person when we went to one of her book signings a few years ago. She can’t claim ignorance. She knows.

MeltsAway · 11/03/2021 13:54

We had a thread recently where she was getting kicked for her TWAW public view.

Did anyone hear her on the Today programme today, together with Julie Bindel?

Ms Phillips said something like "I can't change my chromosomes and not be a woman" in agreement with Ms Bindel's very clear statements that this is not a woman's problem but a problem for men.

I thought Aha! This is what she actually thinks - that sex is immutable.

Wondermule · 11/03/2021 13:55

The cynic in me would say she does so much work for ‘women and girls’ to offset her TWAW stance - she’s hoping to pull in both crowds.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/03/2021 14:01

I see a woman who is making the same mental journey I did a few years ago.

Start off with the TWAW because 'be nice' and then something jumps out at you and you change your mind.

Her problem is her mental process has been fully documented, played out in public.

And, whilst I don't disagree with what Baracker said, it may not leave much room for change.

So, I think what JP says is great, it is a clear, inarguable message that the vast majority of people will hear and fully understand.

I will wait and watch, see if she continues to distance herself from TWAW!

MaMaLa321 · 11/03/2021 14:07

JP wants it both ways - as big, bold and sassy. A defender of women everywhere.
and
(according to some on here) too frightened to speak the truth about TWAW.
or
perhaps too stupid to see the truth. or too self-interested to speak it.

Wondermule · 11/03/2021 14:32

Interesting call in on LBC just now. Discussing sexual harassment and a mum called to say after being traumatised, her daughter decided to become non binary.

Siablue · 11/03/2021 14:43

She does a lot of work with both Karen Ingala-Smith and Southall Black Sisters which if she was a TRA she would not do. Then there is the matter of the deleted tweet about the single sex refuges and a murder victim.

She knows on some level that there are issues with this.

She gets a lot done as an opposition MP and achieves a lot. Ashe added a lot of really life saving things to the domestic abuse bill. All that will be lost if she did a Rosie Duffield and very little would actually be gained.

Even if she does think that TWAW I still like her because she does a lot and gets a lot of abuse for it.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2021 14:53

Barracker has it.

QuentinWinters · 11/03/2021 15:04

Exactly sia

OP posts:

Now she's getting pilloried as a "white feminist" on Twatter for not including trans women in the list, even though none died last year.
I guess if both sides are accusing you of belonging to "the other side" it could be argued you are successfully navigating the middle ground Grin

but, if you believe that if a transwoman kills a woman, then it is literally a woman killing a woman. As she does. And so it would be taken off the list. Don't you think that's questionable?
You might think that it comes under the category of whattaboutery, but it is an issue, IMO

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/03/2021 16:33

Why are they getting caught up on Naomi Hersi. That wasn't last year!

All sorts of stretching... as they said!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/03/2021 16:35

??? She used KIS list, didn't she. So no transwomen would be included as anything other than men!

Are you suggesting something that didn't happen... a whataboutery?
